The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Thirst for life is delightful
Thirst for fame reawakens
Thirst for life is delightful
Don't tell me to stop thinking,
Don't force me to stop acting,
Don't make me stop speaking...
You can't, can't change me
You can't, can't change me
I would never explain it again
You don't know me
You can't understand my words
You perceive a parallel idea of me
Like a coral generated by gemmation
You don't see my heart is transparent
You don't perceive I'm totally open
You don't feel my willingness
You don't trust my clearness
You misunderstand my essence
Anagrammatize my psychotic dreams
And you will find out, find out myself
Like a coral generated by gemmation
You don't see my heart is transparent
Thirst for life is delightful
Thirst for fame reawakens
Thirst for power make it our soul
Thirst for fame reawakens
Thirst for life is delightful
Don't tell me to stop thinking,
Don't force me to stop acting,
Don't make me stop speaking...
You can't, can't change me
You can't, can't change me
I would never explain it again
You don't know me
You can't understand my words
You perceive a parallel idea of me
Like a coral generated by gemmation
You don't see my heart is transparent
You don't perceive I'm totally open
You don't feel my willingness
You don't trust my clearness
You misunderstand my essence
Anagrammatize my psychotic dreams
And you will find out, find out myself
Like a coral generated by gemmation
You don't see my heart is transparent
Thirst for life is delightful
Thirst for fame reawakens
Thirst for power make it our soul
