The Blonde Lead the Blind Lyrics
The blonde lead the blind, but now I begin to see
All the things you missed when you were dismissed
Because learning always ended at three
And time after time, you pass along liability
And all the things you say, they only give you away
Because you're on the same level that you were that day
Oh! Friend! You look too deep at the cover of the magazine
But the words inside they come across deprived
And they force feed shit, but you still subscribe
And you watch, but you don't see
You touch, but you don't feel
And you'll rue the day they'll try to take it away
But they know you'll never fight it if they keep it the same
Did you lose faith? Yes, I lost faith in the powers that be
But In doing so I came across the will to disagree
And I gave up, yes I gave up and then I gave in
But I take responsibility for every single sin
Soon everyone will see, and everyone will know
That the things we hid were irrelevant and it's all just part of the show
And the blemishes and scars that made us who we are
We're told to cover up, but we've taken enough
And we're not going to stop until it's taken apart
Come one, come all to observe the fall
Free tickets to the free for all
And it never ends, it goes around against
And we're all bit players in the scheme of things
And I hope someday you'll find
All the answers to the questions on your mind
In time you will cross the line and you'll realize
That everything you thought was right
Did you lose faith? Yes, I lost faith in the powers that be
But In doing so I came across the will to disagree
And I gave up, yes I gave up and then I gave in
But I take responsibility for every single sin
All the things you missed when you were dismissed

Isn't it possible that when he says: "learning always ended at three" that we stopped learning when school let out. after that, we were simply dumbed down by society and did nothing to make an attempt to learn more.
lol thereby implying not only that we LEARN things in school, but that we learn IMPORTANT things in school. don't get me wrong I love streetlight manifesto but Tomas can be a big of a self righteous douche sometimes, come on now am I really the only one thinkin it?

I think he is talking about schools depriving you of an opinion or an option. He has lost faith in God, but in doing so he has learned to disagree;stand on his own two feet and become independent. There's a possibility that "I gave up and then I gave in" means he gave up on God and then returned.
I think the second paragraph is about people pounding you with Christianity, yet we say nothing and question nothing.
Could mean a lot of things.

"And I gave up, yes I gave up and then I gave in." -among other things i think this is also a throwback to Giving Up, Giving In
In my opinion I think he's talking about how stupid things in society gain more importance than the things that actually are important:
"Oh! Friend! You look too deep at the cover of the magazine But the words inside they come across deprived And they force feed shit, but you still subscribe"
He's saying here that people read things (like tabloids) when important things are cast aside. I think the overall message of the song is that: if people don't focus on the important things, it will lead to our downfall:
"Come one, come all to observe the fall Free tickets to the free for all"
The way I understand it, he's lost faith in humanity.
Does "the powers that be" refer to God or the government? I heard that the Bible coined the term to describe the ruling class (not God).
I personally think that this song is about becoming Atheist and in doing so that it is his responsiblity to take the blame for all of his sins, that even though there is no God in his point of view that he should still live life as a good person.
"All the things you missed when you were dismissed Because learning always ended at three And time after time, you pass along liability And all the things you say, they only give you away Because you're on the same level that you were that day"
This part talks about how we are basically set up at the age of 3 for what the rest of our lives are going to be like. If your told that there is a God when your young and that if you don't believe in him then your going to hell, your most likely going to believe that for the rest of your life, and if you don't really question your faith then your pretty much just the same as a little kid.
"Soon everyone will see, and everyone will know That the things we hid were irrelevant and it's all just part of the show And the blemishes and scars that made us who we are We're told to cover up, but we've taken enough And we're not going to stop until it's taken apart."
Basically, don't cover up all your horrible experiences in hopes that people will accept you because they are really in the past and the past is the past.
"Oh! Friend! You look too deep at the cover of the magazine But the words inside they come across deprived And they force feed shit, but you still subscribe And you watch, but you don't see You touch, but you don't feel And you'll rue the day they'll try to take it away But they know you'll never fight it if they keep it the same"
So basically don't believe everything you hear, your should really question and find your own answers instead of allowing others to decide for you, and we get use to this and the day that they stop then we get lost. (Is this kinda reffering to the bible? Seems like it's a metaphor of it...or it could really be talking about a magazine. Just my opinion)
The only thing I don't buy about that is the comparison of religious figure, or in some sense, God, to the 'blond,' being an possibly attractive, but in fact unintelligent figure, whereas the religious figures are trying to send a completely different message, whatever it may be. To compare 'the magazine' with the bible, I think, is a bad metaphor. The authors of 'the magazine' are aware that they're 'force feeding sh**', but preachers of the words of the Bible are doings so based on honest faith. Usually. I just don't think the Bible should be compared to a tabloid. There's...

I believe over all the song is about Tom giving up in his faith of god, and how he realizes that he can still have the morals that his religion is trying to convey without being religious. And all the things you say, they only give you away Because you're on the same level that you were that day
When looking at the name and relating it to lyrics, i can say that second amendment is right. the blonde are the power in the magazines that draw in all the people and make them not notice the real world. I think the powers that be are the press, and neither god nor government.
right on, in my book. I say that's it;

I truly love this song, for multiple reasons. All the horn work in this song is fucking amazing. All the lyrics are genius, and just the whole arrangement is beautiful. I think this might be the best song on their latest cd.
