Always Be Lyrics

Could've been a night like any other
One of us has to drive
One of us gets to think
I'll force a laugh to break the silence
It's gonna get harder still
Before it gets easy
You can't keep safe what whats to break

[Chorus:]
I'm alone in this
I'm as I've always been
Right behind what's happening
She's lost in this
She's like she'll always be
A little far for me to reach

I was just a boy like every other
I thought I was something fierce
I thought I was ten times smarter
Love would be something that I just know
(Something I just know)
How you gonna know the feeling till you've lost it
I've been losing plenty since

I'm alone in this
I'm as I've always been
Right behind what's happening
She's lost in this
She's like she'll always be
A little far for me to reach

Maybe something else I'm missing
Something good and your the reason
It's a dream but there's a real long wedding

I'm alone in this
I'm as I've always been
Right behind what's happening
She's lost in this
She's like she'll always be
A little far for me to reach

I'm alone in this
I'm as I've always been
Right behind what's happening
She's lost in this
She's like she'll always be
A little far for me to reach

Sounds like a guy who realizes its the end of his relationship with a girl who is really confused ("She's real lost in this", and as the relationship ends and he's stuck realizing that he loved her. (Love would be something that I just know, How are you gonna know the feeling, Until you lost it)

And he knows its the end of things but doesnt want to face it. "It's gonna get harder still Before it's easy You can't keep safe what wants to break"

He also realizes that he's learned alot from the experience, and understands that he needs to move on. "Maybe something else I'm missing Something good and you're the reason It's a dream but there's a real world waitng"

I wish this song dropped about 3 weeks ago, because I was in this exact same situation. EXCELLENT song though, one of the best on the album

I don't think this song is about an immature love necessarily. A first love, perhaps. But I'd like to point out that there is a difference between immaturity and innocence. Simply put, I think it's about neither of them knowing what they had until they lost it. He sings about it now because he regrets not understanding what true love was. Maybe he believes that true love lasts a lifetime.

yeah i can relate. we all can relate.

i think of an awkward situation where (in this case) the guy is madly in love with the girl and desperately wants to make it known, but is afraid of ruining what relationship he already has with her.

....story of my life.

After hearing this song a few times, it's quickly become one of my favourites by jimmy eat world.

I haven't worked out what it means to me yet, but I love the tune.

This song is really really good. One correction though, the "All forces left..." line should be "I'll force a laugh to break the silence."

Also, "I'm at as I've always been" sounds kind of awkward, and I know it sounds like that's what he says in the song, but to me it seems more like he's saying "I'm-a as I've always been..." and "She's-a lost in this..." which is probably just as awkward sounding and definitely more Italian sounding but hey....who knows. Still a great song by a great band. Def touches on feelings of longing for someone you'll probably never have the chance to attain. In my opinion the character's singing about someone he's never been with but has always admired, and he's finding himself in a position where they are alone together and he's dying to say something but can't, and now he's kind of lamenting that fact. Hence the "it's a dream, but there's a real world waiting" line. He knows he can't dwell on fantasy and regret forever. It's kind of a sad song if you think about it that way, but it's also kind of inspiring because he knows sometimes it's just nice to have that someone to long for, even if you know you'll never get them.

Small correction and explanation on the chorus:

I'm alone in this I'm a "as-I've-always-been" Right behind what's happening She's a "lost-in-this" She's a light She'll always be a little far for me to reach

"As-I've-Always-Been" and "Lost-in-This" in the way you could refer to someone as a "has-been" or "never-was". I think anyway... I didn't write it. Just my lil lyrical interpretation. Hope this helps.
