Drifting Further Away Lyrics

Don't go too deep into the flood
Don't stare too long, you'll poison my love
Don't shut me out, don't hold it all in
Don't let my venom get under your skin

Cause every word and every turn
Every sign points to your hurt
With every hour you're drifting further away

Come make your peace, come find your way
Come lay your wreath at the alter of change
Don’t lose your step, don’t break the bones
Don’t shoulder the burden out there on your own

Cause every word and every turn
Every sign points to your hurt
With every hour you're drifting further away

Don’t banish me then bid me home
Then tell me where I came undone
Don’t harbour love like it's all your own
Don’t linger over what you've done
Don’t sink underneath the weight of
when you're trying to carry way too much

And you never should have let go
You could have joined the whole show
I never should have let go
I never should have let go

Cause every word and every turn
Every sign points to your hurt
With every hour your drifting further away

Now you’re drifting further away
Now you’re drifting further away
Now you’re drifting further away

I can't believe no one has commented this!! This is an amazing song. I think it's about to lovers. One of them may have depression and the other is unsure of what to do, so does nothing. But as he watches them, he realizes that they drifting away and he's doing nothingto stop them. It's such a sad song but is beautifully writen and composed. That is what I love about powderfinger.

I think this song is written from the perspective of someone watching someone who is grieving for someone who has died. I could be wrong though.

One of the most amazing songs, it's one of my all time favourites.

It could mean many different things depending on when you listen to it.

For me it symbolises him looking back on a friendship/relationship with someone in which he couldn't help and he knows it didn't have to end that way. He was there to help and couldn't because he wasn't allowed.
