D.A.F. Lyrics

Holding out for a signal to come
Solution found should appease everyone
Religion hides from developing proof
Believers try to encourage the truth

Cascading down golden rays above
Cascading down life from far beyond
May reveal the silence they deny

Sound and sight end suspicion and fear
Distant light took so long to appear
Fey black eyes mystified everyone

Cascading down golden rays above
Cascading down life from far beyond
May reveal the silence they deny

But they keep filling up, keep filling up my eyes
But they keep filling up, keep filling up my eyes

I think it's quite simply just a song about how we keep evolving and trying to find truth, or the closest thing we can get to it. Religion did it for a while and served its purpose but our growing thirst for knowledge about ourselves, our planet, our solar system and "the great beyond" continues to drive us and will continue to unveil more and more truths. I think the final lines are just about Fanning's sense of amazement at what we continue to discover and how truly awe inspiring it really is.

My Interpretation

powderfinger have said this song is about the aboriginal race.

Uhhh, no, it's not about aboriginals. It's about aliens. How can you miss that? It's plain as day!

Nothing in the song whatsoever says that it's about aboriginals. And I doubt Powderfinger have said it, either.

Yeah this is definately not about aboriginals. Seems to me its about S.E.T.I. (the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence).

"Holding out for a signal to come" "Cascading down life from far beyond"

SETI uses massive satellite dishes to listen for radio and other kinds of signals from other planets.

"Solution found should appease everyone Religion hides from developing proof"

If intelligent life can be proved using this method it would go some way towards disproving most religious theorys of creationism.

im not sure what every line of the song is about and how it fits in. But it clearly has nothing to do with Aboriginals

i agree with freelance_mercenary. although powderfinger/bernard seem to have some things to say about the aborigines, this song isn't about them. great, great song. i want to learn to play it. i never really thought about the title, but i guess the chord thing makes perfect sense. lol.

In an interview lead singer Bernard Fanning, was asked "what is D.a.f about?" he quickly brushes it off saying something like "don't worry bout daf, it's just me writing another song about finding the truth"

Memory

Everyone is right even the aboriginal part.aboriginals have been here 50 000 years that means an ice age endurance 20 000 years ago.survival was achieved only from help and signals from above.cave paintings and dreamtime stories prove.same story as native americans.government and religion deny it happens.bernard was right he was just doing some x files type truth finding and why its so important the truth is hidden.

yeah, that's about it. They also said the title of the song is the name of the chords used...
