Crooked Spoons Lyrics

Take me down
Where the baptized drown
So they say!

(Surface dweller, shallow swimmer)

Let's lick my wounds

So they say
I killed a man
So they say
I took his head
So they say
He was a scourge
And all the world are his children

The best thing they ever did
in this life was let me live

Digging swiftly
Out of hell
Madness helps me save myself

Crooked spoons on every wall
Genocide lines the hall
Ten gauge needles and a prayer
Smearing sin everywhere

What
Else could you need?
You've taken everything
What
Else could you need?
You've taken everything

(Surface dweller, shallow swimmer)

Let's lick my wounds

We feed until we're engorged

Let them sleep

I need some more
Nooses made from human hair
Bodies falling from thin air

We speak and preach forbidden truth
This is it
We're through with you
I'm choosing to lose my mind

Rape the blade and call it wine

Crooked spoons on every wall
Genocide lines the hall
Ten gauge needles and a prayer
Smearing sin everywhere

What
Else could you need?
You've taken everything
What
Else could you need?
You've taken everything

(Surface dweller, shallow swimmer)

Take me where the baptized drown!

I sleep too deep
For you to wake me
I sleep too deep
For you to wake me
I sleep too deep
For you'll never wake me

My lips are kissed with
Tiny stitches

What
Else could you need?
You've taken everything
What
Else could you need?
You've taken everything

The venom that slips from your lips
The tiny lies shining in your eyes
Pain in my veins, shallow
Hollow, incarcerated soul
I sleep too deep
You to wake me up

Otep Shamaya is.... admirable for lack of better words.

Genocide (?) Ten guage needles into prayer (?)

it's Genocide lines the hall Ten guage needles and a prayer

that's those two lines This song is pretty much blasphemous and i think that's basically what she aimed for (doesnt she always?) But i think that she may be making fun of any christian or catholic...someone along those lines and religion

on the other hand i LOVE otep shamaya...she's my hero : )

the (growly thing) part is "surface dweller, shallow swimmer"

and I agree with genocide halls, cause in that line it sounds like she's making fun of the fact that christians and catholics stay on the surface and are afraid of dying, because they're afraid of going to hell. so they stay in shallow water and on land, where it's "safe"

I've always thought of this song as being a bit of a 'fuck you' to someone, maybe not a religion in general but maybe a particualr person who follows a certain set of beliefs. I think it may be about one person and their depravities, and about drug abuse. Maybe about being subjected, or foreced, to use drugs against her/his will. Im still not sure what kind of perspective shes writing from. 'Venom that slips from your lips' and 'pain in my veins' hints to me at manipulation to use something undesirable. especially after the reference to needles. Love to think about this tune, its over far too soon everytime I listen to it. Going to give a bit more thought! probably going to leave a load of comments here :P

feckin love Otep!

I think that this song is majorly about drug use, addiction and the life around it. i am probably over simplifying the whole song... oh... and i kinda went overboard on the examples...

Title. crooked spoons, a stereotypical way to cook up drugs are in bent spoons.

Let's lick my wounds. it is a common practice to lick the injection site after a shot.

So they say I killed a man. So they say I took his head - probably that she got another person hooked... So they say He was a scourge - common belief is that users are just punishing them self "the scourge of drug abuse"

Digging swiftly - trying to find a vein fast. Out of hell - so she can get high Madness helps me save myself - to escape reality

Crooked spoons on every wall - the only thing she has to show is the results of her drug abuse Ten gauge needles and a prayer - a 10 gauge needle is a exaggerated huge needle.

We feed until we're engorged - none stop craving, using

We preach and scream forbidden truth - they are always trying to correct the false idea about drugs and users that the general public has We're through with you - but no one listens I'm choosing to lose my mind - so she gives up

For you'll never wake me - is too deep in addiction to even want to get out, or, she is delusional about her own addiction

My wrists are kissed with tarnished stitches - sounds like the only reason she has to live is the drugs.

(this part i think she illustrates the drugs as a person.) The venom that slips from your lips - every time she kiss "take drugs" she is a little more poisoned. The tiny lies shining in your eyes - and the drugs makes her delusional to think that everything is ok Pain in my veins - referring to iv use shallow Hollow, incarcerated soul - trapped in addiction.
