Silence Lyrics

All those places
Where I recall the memories
that grip me,
and pin me down.

I go to these places
intending to think,
And think of nothing,
But anticipate.

And somehow,
expect you’ll find me there,
That, by some miracle,
You’d be aware.

I’d risen this morning
Intending to break the spell
my longing not to think

I freed myself from my family
I freed myself from work
I freed myself
Freed myself
And remained alone

And in my thinking
I’d steal you away
though you never wanted me anyway

OMG!!! It's perfect! Such a wonderfull picture of loneliness and unmutual love.

I think that the pause before the last part, namely when she starts singing "Silence..." is pure perfection. This is without any doubt my fav on this album. The way she sings it makes the pain of her words almost tangible... Heard this one live 3 years ago and it remains still one of the most emotional experiences of my life...

I think it's about someone who is trying to deal with the death of a close friend or loved one. I get the picture the speaker is seeking out old places, old haunts, maybe even the graveside, trying to accept the fact of death. But secretly they expect the dead person to come back or still be there somehow. However, the speaker is only greeted with silence and the finality of the person's absence.

This is a really special song to me.

I remember becoming almost competely obsessed with White Chalk when it came out (ten year ago, Gosh!) as I had never heard anything like it before. It was very dark, very minimalistic but also very sensual and seductive in a morbid way. And of course hauntingly beautiful and personal. 'Silence' has always been my favorite as I was (and to a certain extent I still am) a person who often thinks like the narrator of the song. I like visiting places where something amazing (or terrible) had happened to me - and be sad about it. I also miss people with the paralyzing fear that they don't miss me back and left my life for good. My head is also very often buzzing with a myriad of doubts, fears, ambitions, thoughts and memories... At a certain point I can only do what PJ does in this song: shout 'SILENCE' at the top of my lungs (inside my head or otherwise) to finally find some rest. From myself.

A brilliant record and a deeply beautiful song.

Totally get what you mean. I feel like my whole life I Express myself, whether it is visual or spoken or skikmimmhjdmmscreaming – but I feel so unseen and unheard sometimes. It’s like I
give of myself, really and truly, and no response, just silence... Beautiful song for sure

Was meant to be reply to hintalohadur. I don’t know why I can’t delete or edit. Sorry!
