Red Stars Lyrics
Best of cruel intentions
Finding what they fail to mention
No truth, all pretension
Raise your hand to give attention
You'd give it
We'd take it
You'd build it
We'd break it
You sign and we erase it
You'd feel it
We'd fake it
It's my red star steal it
It's my red star can't let go
It's my red star conceal it
It's my red star oh no
Wasted education
Celebrating imitation
Misplaced admiration
Speaking for a generation
You'd give it
We'd take it
You'd build it
We'd break it
You sign and we erase it
You'd feel it
We'd fake it
It's my red star steal it
It's my red star can't let go
It's my red star conceal it
It's my red star oh no

i LOVE this song.
for me, it's just about this world; how it works and how it's wrong. well, like... give and take, that's all we think. if someone builds it, we'll break it, if someone has a talent or understands something, or is just really passionate, they FEEL it...we'll just fake like we do. we all celebrate imitation--copying each other in the lastest trends, being like everyone else in so many ways...(instead of originality).. misplaced admiration; we admire ALL of the wrong people these days...stupid celebrities, instead of people really CHANGING the world and being GOOD people...
and she's speaking for a generation; because that's ALL there is to ours.
I have to agree but when I listen to it I instantly imagine a war between the Two sides of most modern Cultures.

On one side, you have the ones who try to be like everybody else, who try to be Models or PornStars or Pop Stars, what ever, the imitators.

On the other side are those who are being themselves and are refusing to let the imitators take over, be it because they don't want their children to grow up in a society of "One Face" or for another reason.

Also, on a very strange note.. When I imagine this, I see one Army all with the same faces, the same clothes, the same hair, the Rebellious or "Red Stars" are all different from each other and with so many different styles.
"You give it, we take it. You build it, we break it. You sign and we erase it. You feel it, we fake it."
That line could easily be the rebellious side of the Country/Culture.
The imitators give to try to coax more into their side but all the Rebellious do is take it but never join them.
The imitators build and the Rebellious tear it down or destroy it.
The imitators sign papers to make laws and such the way "they" want them to be and the Rebellious erase or dispose of it.
The Rebellious coax their way in to the imitators group or Army through Love or otherwise but is really there to betray and destroy from within.
But.. That's just my take on it, also, my response is hella-late but oh well.
@severalways What a lovely and in tune with my thoughts of this song, which I just discovered while on the way to see them recently in Atlanta. Even as a 51 yr old granny,, I was moving to this song. LOVED IT,, felt it captured the true essence of how I feel about the world and its folk at this point in my life.

Why does everyone keep saying Chibi writes all the songs? She doesn't, Rainbow does. Sometimes she'll co-write with him, but for the most part, he does all of the lyrics. Get it right.
Ahhh!!! My absolute favorite band! Well, anyway...in interviews they talk about how they're songs all have themes of childhood vs. adulthood and stuff like that...so I think the communism part may be a little bit far-fetched...however, it could be right. None of us wrote the song. I think someone mentioned that this song is about Chibi and Rainbow when they were in elementary school and they would get red stars as rewards for something they might have done. That could be possible, however I'm trying to think how that fits the lyrics in some spots... Awesome song though. I LOVE this band!
I think that by "Red Star" they mean a false hope or an unreachable dream... By "red" they could possibly mean that it's really strong, because the colour red usually symbolizes hard and strong things. Also, a red star is a symbol of communism.
As metalspikes82 mentioned, they have said in an interview that some of their songs are about childhood vs adulthood...
And actually it sounds like a war to me:
Someone says, "It's my red star!" And someone else tells a group of people, "Steal it."
They want to take the person's dream away from them, steal their red star.
"It's my red star!" "They can't let go..."
"It's my red star!" "Conceal it."
"It's my red star..."
And then something tragic happens. "Oh no."
But actually just listen closely to the lyrics:
Wasted education Celebrating imitation Misplaced admiration Speaking for a generation.
Everyone is admiring the wrong people, they're imitating them, this has been happening a lot this generation.
That's just how I see it. I know I might have gotten a lot of things wrong.
MUEN: CAN YOU TELL OUR READERS WHO MAY BE A LITTLE UNFAMILIAR WITH YOU, WHAT THE SONG "RED STARS" IS ABOUT?
CHIBI: It is a song about approval, success, and failure.
RAINBOW: It's about misdirected attention and credit. It's about building off the work of those who came before and claiming it all as one's own. The lyrics were initially inspired by the phrase 'standing on the shoulders of giants'. When I was in elementary school, if a student followed all the rules, did what they were told, or got a perfect score on a test, they were rewarded with a red star, which would be placed beside their name on a list of all the students in the class.
So there it is.
yes i thought so i just couldnt get my finger on it, thank you :D

Please tell me that T.C. kid is having a laugh?
Always dreaded the day TBM's music would attract idiots like that.
@Baggie Well, now I know who voted them down. Please try to respect others' opinions, validate others' experiences, and avoid contributing statements of no value. Depression is a real problem, but I do not mean to insult your intelligence by implying that you did not already know that.

I think it's about teenagers.
I think it's about adults leaving youth with a cursed world then blaming things on them. Especially when it says:
"Raise your hand to get attention."
"Speaking for a generation."
And
"You give it, We take it. You Build it, We Break it. You sign and we, erase it."
"You FEEL it, We FAKE it." Meaning they pretend to follow in their footsteps but don't agree.
Then I think the teens are wanting a GOOD world for themselves when they sing: "It's my red star, Steal it. It's my red star, Can't let it go. It's my red star, Conceal it, It's my red star, Oh no."
severalways is right on :)
I think 'Red Star' is suppose to be a possession. It could be anything, like a general something that belongs to you.
"My red star – stealing it. My red star – killing it. My red star – concealing it. My red star."
It'll be taken away from you, even though it's yours.
A really chatchy song. I dont think it's abotu self harm at all. It sort of reminds me of bullying, though. for example, You give it. We take it. ('you'giving into the bullying, 'we' bully) You build it. We break it.('you' try & stand up for yourself,'we' tear you down) You suddenly erase it.('you' try to forget about it, erase it from your memory)
this song is so awesome! maybe shes singing about her heart?I always thought that she could also mean love and her heart
You give it. We take it.They gave their heart and someone took it,'wearing her hart on her sleeve' You build it. We break it.building up ur heart, the love behind a relationship You suddenly erase it.forgets about the heart aka the person You feel it. We fake it.they feel the pain and the other pretends not to notice
