Electable (Give It Up)

Wow.

I am so, looking forward to the new album, despite the horrible album art.

J.E.W. has yet to fail me.

Its obviously a song about the upcoming 2008 presidential election, much like the song "Futures" was for the past election.

It just talks about how politics is headed down the drain, and how the politicians in DC don't represent the people's views: "Not in my name, you don't speak for me I am my voice, and I want to scream You want my air, you want my life I act as one, but I'm not alone."

a pretty straightforward song, but a good one.

"and I want to scream" is one of my fave moments off Chase This Light.

I think the first verse talks about being raised as part of a religion in childhood. It also mentions being judged, and to take your chance, and play the record straight (no compromising your beliefs)

I came up like everyone, they taught us all the same I said what they told me to say, and then from that they grade. Give up repeating the facts, but that could be arranged Here I am, I'll take my chance Now play the record straight. Now the chorus it telling people to give up on their religion, but jimmy says no, no, no or rather his equivalent here oh oh oh

This verse talks about humilty (bottom of the pile) as well as being honest and facing the truth facts.

I also think Jimmy makes a reference to god, when he says "I act as one, but i'm not alone"

I think V8 Muscle got it right. This song is all about how JEW thinks politics is bull.
