Alone With The Sea (Volume 2 Version) Lyrics

Once there was an old ocean

Where anyone who saw it grew old with the sea

We were terrified of water

And of all the sons and daughters no one dared to see

And on the banks of the coastline I tracked a bleeding loved one who’s blood was mingling

In the saltiest of waters, where apparently they faltered, never again to be seen

So I cry

I tried

I cried

I scry

This old war ship has wounds and it won’t sail for nothing an old sailor said to me

And I was foolish not to listen and pay such close conscription at all the lies I believed

"But if you lend me some more labor and you put your name on paper we just might catch a breeze"

I know now he was not a captain now because of all my action I grow alone with the sea

But I've strangely come immune to the thought of seeing you

And the smell of cheap perfume with all the liquor I've consumed.

Theres no more beauty in this world (x2)

Because I've strangely come immune to the thought of seeing you

And the smell of cheap perfume with all the liquor I consume.

Theres no more beauty in this... (x2)

Theres no more beauty in this world

I've strangely come immune to the thought of seeing you

And the smell of sweet perfume is just a ring around the moon

Theres no more beauty in this world

Theres no more beauty in this... (x2)

Theres no more beauty in this world

(repeat)

I try

I cry

I tried

As eyes cry

Theres no more beauty in this... (x2)
Theres no more beauty in this world

I have a much different interpretation of the second verse:

"This old war ship has wounds and it wont sail for nothing an old sailor said to me

And I was foolish not to listen and pay such close conscription at all the lies I believed

"But if you lend me some more labor and you put your name on paper we just might catch a breeze"

I know now he was not a captain now because of all my action I grow alone with the sea"

The warship refers to a relationship - he's being warned that this can't work out. The second part, "put your name on paper" alludes to marriage - if he makes a deeper commitment, maybe things will improve. The last line is saying that because of all his wasted time on something that never worked out, he has nothing left but to be alone.

This song seems to be about a man stranded on a desert island. Beautiful song, probably my favorite on the album.

First of all, the word is not "try" its "Scry" or to predict the future. Good time to remind you all thst the cd is cut in half to two six song parts. This song in particular stresses metaphorically and lirerally the loss of hope and the progression of himself moving passed feelings for her that ultimately leave him hating the world.

This song is about life and love. It's about people making the journey and losing there way. The ocean/sea is a metaphor for aging and the progression of life. The boat captain being a psycologist who he had gotten direction from...He is ultimatley saying that the biggest loss along the way was the loss of his loved one... he wants her back...
