Tahiti Lyrics
Community saw the best in me
Exchanging the common heart for the salt in the sea
Children of the sun on a highway of hope
The beauty of coming together
In sorrow
Tahiti we don't got no name
Tahiti we don't got no home
Tahiti we don't got no money
Tahiti we don't got no
Honey
But we do the dishes, we make the bread
We are powdered ashes in the light of the beauty
He said
Wear those dark glasses to help us see
Hot tears rolling down and our arms are knitted
Creatures of the night on a highway of hope
And the beauty that we'll leave each other
Tomorrow
Tahiti we don't got no name
Tahiti we don't got no home
Tahiti we don't got no money
Tahiti we don't got no
Honey
Exchanging the common heart for the salt in the sea
Children of the sun on a highway of hope
The beauty of coming together
In sorrow
Tahiti we don't got no home
Tahiti we don't got no money
Tahiti we don't got no
Honey
We are powdered ashes in the light of the beauty
He said
Hot tears rolling down and our arms are knitted
And the beauty that we'll leave each other
Tomorrow
Tahiti we don't got no home
Tahiti we don't got no money
Tahiti we don't got no
Honey

its gorgeous, i absolutely love the intro.
This is my favorite song. It reminds me of the author Jean Rhys for some reason.
I always thoguht this song had two perspectives to it.
'Community saw the best in me Exchanging the common heart for the salt in the sea Children of the sun on a highway of hope The beauty of coming together In sorrow'
Someone who has proved themself to have a talent or skill and is highly recognised for it, they will go far. On the day they depart eveyone they love has come together to bid them farewell.

Creatures of the night on a highway of hope And the beauty that we'll leave each other Tomorrow'
But there was probably an eltist attitude to the individual. There is a response from those who felt this. They want to understand, but they can't, so they scorn the talented one.
I think I'm making more of this than possible, but it is a really cryptic song.
scratches head If I ever get a chance to meet Natasha, I would most definitely quiz her upon it.
Parts of the song (namely the chorus) made me think it was about slavery, but I don't think that's so... (After all, Tahiti from what I can tell never really had much slavery, all the Europeans just went there to holiday and spread their diseases. But I'm sure it's not that literal anyway.)
I feel it's sort of being sent off on this anticipatory journey, sort of like being chosen to lead the way and travel to a new place, only to have hopes crushed. That sort of fits with some of the other songs?
Great interpretations of this great song. The song is about a person, the artist Tahiti Pehrson :-)
Er.. Natasha Khan is of Pakistani descent, but was born and raised in the UK. I think either your confused or I'm confused by the comment.

I think you were confused by the comment, faebyl was commenting on the idea that the song was written by Natasha Khan about Tahiti Pehrson, an artist.

I personally think this is one of the many Bat for Lashes songs that arent really designed for indepth analysis...it just transports you to another world, and can you really analyse that?
