1973 Lyrics
You're getting older
The journey's been
Etched on your skin
I guess I know this
We seemed so strong
We've been there and gone
And we'd both stay out 'til the morning light
And we sang, "Here we go again"
And though time goes by
I will always be
In a club with you
In 1973
Singing "Here we go again"
Wish I was sober
So I could see clearly now
The rain has gone
I guess it's over
My memory plays our tune
The same old song
And we'd both stay out 'til the morning light
And we sang, "Here we go again"
And though time goes by
I will always be
In a club with you
In 1973
Singing "Here we go again"
And we'd both stay out 'til the morning light
And we sang, "Here we go again"
And though time goes by
I will always be
In a club with you
In 1973
Singing "Here we go again"
And we'd both stay out 'til the morning light
And we sang, "Here we go again"
And though time goes by
I will always be
In a club with you
In 1973
Singing "Here we go again"
I will always be
In a club with you
It was 1973

Following is from an interview by UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph.....
His new album, All the Lost Souls, is released by Custard/Atlantic on Sept 17. It is preceded by another ridiculously catchy single, 1973, already lodged at number 10 in the charts. Given that Blunt wasn't born until 1974, there has been a degree of mockery about a song recalling high times in a club with a girl called Simona in the titular year. "The club is Pascha, which opened in 1973," Blunt prosaically explains. "Obviously, names have been changed to protect the innocent; but Simona's a friend, and we spent far too much time in there. But 2006 didn't scan."

Guess you know it, but James was born in 1974 :)

Do you guys also notice that "Here We Go Again" is a song that James sang as well!
I also love the line "So I could see clearly now the rain has gone" just like Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now"
Great song... music video is awesome as well. Lots of feelings

i think mabe he had a love in his life and can't forget about her and i looked up the song"here we go again" and if anyone wants to look go to www.lyrics007.com and look up "here we go again" it's by PureNRG im pretty sure this is the song he's referring to

1973", was inspired by Blunt's nights out at Pacha, an Ibiza club, which opened in that year. it has nothing to do with his parents or a past relationship.

I'm really in love with this song. I think basically he's reminiscing about the past when him and "Simona" were together.
In the song he says: "Wish I was sober So I could see clearly now The rain has gone" I think that part means he's regretting not appreciating how good the times were when they were together.
This song's just to beautiful. Like Girlish Intentionz said, its makes you think about the past.

I think it's about a guy who's stuck in the past. Like he can't get a past relationship out of his head. Catchy.

I'd agree with that. But I also think that there are some people that for whatever reason, you leave parts of yourself with. Sounds like that was the most alive he'd ever felt. Definitely catchy.

This song makes me feel mixed feelings when I listen to it. I really listened to the lyrics once and I deducted it may be that James is telling the story of a time in his life that made him happy, maybe part of his teenage years or early twenties and he fell so deeply in love with a girl, maybe first love, and he can't forget her.
He's reflecting on his life by saying, "I would call you up," and remembering his past. Maybe he still loves this girl, maybe not. He wonders what she is doing now, and thinks about the times they shared.
I looked up the song "Here we go again," thinking it would be a song in that era, but I found nothing but Ray Charles. Maybe "Here we go again," is just what they said when they were driving and laughing. I have no clue what relevance this has to do with 1973...
Anyways, I like this song. It's a good song to chill out to. Makes you think about the past.
