This song makes me feel mixed feelings when I listen to it. I really listened to the lyrics once and I deducted it may be that James is telling the story of a time in his life that made him happy, maybe part of his teenage years or early twenties and he fell so deeply in love with a girl, maybe first love, and he can't forget her.
He's reflecting on his life by saying, "I would call you up," and remembering his past. Maybe he still loves this girl, maybe not. He wonders what she is doing now, and thinks about the times they shared.
I looked up the song "Here we go again," thinking it would be a song in that era, but I found nothing but Ray Charles. Maybe "Here we go again," is just what they said when they were driving and laughing. I have no clue what relevance this has to do with 1973...
Anyways, I like this song. It's a good song to chill out to. Makes you think about the past.
