The Best Lyrics

On a perfect day
Somewhat like today
We will find each other there
We will find each other there

And somewhat like the month we first met
And we can't forget the way I loved you
But I can't pretend how far we've gone
And we cannot mend
What damage has been done
No, we cannot mend
What damage is done now

But then we shall come home and become
The best ones we could have been
Oh, the best we could have been
No, the best we could have been
No

The whole Band In A Bubble thing sounded nice, but it really rushed them, and their songwriting has suffered accordingly. This song, especially lyrically speaking, is predictable and really very uninteresting.

Such a simple song...nothing special, but I like it none the less. I think it's maybe about a past relationship that didn't work out.

This song is incredible. Listening to the progression of Will's voice as he continues through the words is chilling. Vague, not predictable lyrics allow for an accurate and very thought provoking story. This band has produced a masterpiece of an album and The Best starts if off right.

I agree 100 percent with Technophobia... i honestly think that whole 'band in a bubble' thing was a wrong decision and gained them these MTV fans that, I think, take away from their musical achievement. I really think Will makes up for the lack of lyrical greatness with his vocals. He performs this song amazingly.
Plus, I really enjoy short and simple songs such as this one.

Isn't this about the Band in the Bubble? That it damaged them musically and didn't produce an album as good as they should have. However, they will come back and fulfill their potential in future works?

even if this album was rushed by band in a bubble, i really don't think it affected the outcome of the album, i'm sure they had ideas and motives going into the bubble on what to record and the message they wanted to put out, and i think they did just that. i love how each song jumps right into another. if you listen closely to the lyrics in the album i think you'll be surprised by how well and closely you can relate, we all are either going through this kind of stuff, or have gone through it. so what if there's not as many 'rock out' songs as there was in chroma? its still a damn good cd. great job cartel.

My Opinion

here is my interpretation... about a break up, a story of comparing past to present and examining condition of relationship. What could have been is compared to what is. basicaly its about those relationships where you want to be together and you remember the good times and wish it was just that but your still torn from that person. “cannot mend what damage has been done”
