He and I; had something beautiful
But so dysfunctional it couldn't last
Loved him so, but I let him go
'Cause I knew he'd never love me back

Such pain as this shouldn't have to be experienced
I'm still reeling from the loss, still a little bit delirious

Near to you, I am healing but it is taking so long
'Cause though he's gone and you are wonderful, it's hard to move on
Yeah, I'm better near to you

With you and I, it's something different
I'm enjoying it cautiously
I'm battle scarred; I am workin' oh-so hard to get
Back to who I used to be

He's disappearing, fading steadily
When I'm so close to being yours
Won't you stay with me, please?

'Cause near to you, I am healing but it is taking so long
'Cause though he's gone and you are wonderful, it's hard to move on
Yet I'm better near to you
Yeah, I'm better near to you

I only know that I am better where you are
I only know that I am better where you are
I only know that I belong where you are

Near to you, I am healing but it is taking so long
Though he's gone and you are wonderful, it's hard to move on
Near to you, I am healing but it is taking so long
'Cause though he's gone and you are wonderful, it's hard to move on

Yeah, I'm better near to you
Yeah, I'm better near to you

My fiance came into my life while I was still dating my first love. I instantly fell for him, but that doesn't mean that my heart didn't ache for my first love every now and then. It was a huge love triangle for a while, and in the end, I left my first love for my current fiance. Don't feel too bad for him, though - he was cheating on me nearly half of the one year we were together. "He and I had something beautiful, but so dysfunctional, it couldn't last. I loved him so, but I let him go, 'cause I knew he'd never love me back." First loves are always precious things, right? It was no exception for me. The first boy I ever really cared about, ever really cried over, ever really kissed and was held by. I loved him, yes. And while I know he loved me, too, his love for me was no match for his love of girls in general. He's a player. That's no secret. I got him out of my life for that reason. Even so.. "Such pain as this shouldn't have to be experienced. I'm still reeling from the loss, still a little bit delirious." I've never been good at letting people go. I have four best friends: one I've had since I was 5, another two since 3rd grade, and my last for about 4 years now. I'm not the kind of girl to just change friends and let go like it's nothing. It was no exception for him. It took a lot to let him go because that's not something I do. "Near to you, I am healing, but it's taking so long. 'Cause though he's gone and you are wonderful, it's hard to move on. Yet I'm better near to you." My fiance is the most amazing guy ever, I swear. Without him, surviving my first love lost wouldn't have been possible. The first few months after the break up, I really was only okay with him. Even in just talking on the phone with him, I was better. I felt okay. Without him near me or about me, I felt alone and depressed.

And, of course, the lyrics that ring true and will always ring true for me about my fiance: "I only know that I am better where you are. I only know that I belong where you are."

Anyway, that's what this song means to me. Like all songs, it can be translated differently. (: One of my all-time favorite songs. Absolutely gorgeous.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
