Confusion And Frustration In Modern Times Lyrics
Up in smoke, pop goes the culture
The tension blew it up
We're choking from a bleeding ulcer
We eventually threw it out so
What went wrong? Where's the voice of reason?
It's long gone, we lost it long ago
Apathy plus ice fill the void of motivation
I can hardly breathe at all
Confusion's all I see
Frustration surrounds me
Solution, bid farewell
Sedation, what the hell?
I broke the mirror to the past
To find what I was looking for
The bleeding heart of broken glass
Is all I found and nothing more regrets
Short of no correction
Paid my debts, to anxiety
The iron lung collapsed from the pressure and the swelling
I can hardly breathe at all
Confusion's all I see
Frustration surrounds me
Solution, bid farewell
Sedation, what the hell?
Confusion's all I see
Frustration surrounds me
Solution, bid farewell
Sedation, what the hell?
Dead-end roads
And warning signs
Destination nowhere
In sight
So!
Divided we stand
Together we fall
There isn't a God
That can save us all
So don't pray on your knees
Just, beg on your hands
There is no belief
In this promised land
Divided we stand
Together we fall
There's no God
That can save us all
So don't pray on your knees
Just, beg on your hands
There is no belief
In this promised land
There's no belief
Confusion's all I see
Frustration surrounds me
Solution, bid farewell
Sedation, what the hell?

deryck isn't saying that there isnt a god, what hes saying is that people shudnt be prayign and assuming that some ultimate being is gonna fix everything and take care of us when something goes wrong, hes saying that we have to start making a stand and doing something about our problmes instead of trying to pray them away becuase we arent doing nething
Divided we stand Together we fall There isn't a God That can save us all
What does he mean exactly with the lines: Divided we stand Together we fall There's no God That can save us all So don't pray on your knees Just, beg on your hands There is no belief In this promised land There's no belief?
Does he actually mean he believes this, or is it to show how confused we are in these modern times? There's so many references about God on this album, there is almost at least one in every song. What is going on lately? Panic! At the Disco was the first one I noticed who had a decent reference to God and themes. Fall Out Boy's last album does as well. And now this one. And I don't really know how to take any of them. Also, on Sum 41's last album, Chuck, it seemed to me that Derrek, unknowingly to himself, was screaming out of Christ on every single song. It seems to me that everything that my generation is so "confusion and frustration" is because they don't have a good understanding, nor a good relationship with who Christ is.
"there's no god that can save us all"
"there's no god that can save us all"
basically what he's saying, not that there's literally no god. but that everyone beleives different things pertaining to who god saves(who goes to heaven ext.). So, in other words, theres not a god in any religion that saves everyone.

"there's no beleif" not saying he dosent beleive anything, hes just restating the fact that god cant save everyone no matter what you beleive. He's trying to make his point. REPETITION (i hope this makes sense, it makes much more sense in my head...)

great song!!! even though sum 41 changed back their genre to AKNF style and let go of leadist Dave Brownsound, they just became better and better!!! This band really rocks!!! all their sogns are amazing!!! worth listening enough for punk rockers!!! hahaha
this tune ROCKS !
great message to a lost generation
The begining of this song always reminds me of the start of Heard That Sound by MxPx.
To supernuke, my thoughts exactly, a message or a letter if more so to our generation, espcialy with the line, "sedation, what the hell?" awesome line.

He means that as a society, we fail. We can't stand to be together and we'll fall apart while trying since we're so intolerant of each other, especially with religion (thus the "There's no God that can save us all"). Even though everyone is praying, they don't really believe in what they're doing and just act like hypocrites, and we should all just be begging for forgiveness instead of praying for happiness or something along those lines.
