The Enemy Lyrics
Why can't you say sorrow
Why can't you say think I believe
Thou must not steal borrow
Why must you steal things I receive?
Why can't you say sorrow
Why can't you say think I believe
Why must you steal borrow
Always conceal cling to belief
Damaged this way hollowed
Living the lie that you can't take
Damaged maintained solemn
Living for rules you only break
How can you say?
The enemy is thrown into the sadness,
For the enemy there's only pain and sadness then death...
Why can't you say think I believe
Thou must not steal borrow
Why must you steal things I receive?
Why can't you say think I believe
Why must you steal borrow
Always conceal cling to belief
Living the lie that you can't take
Damaged maintained solemn
Living for rules you only break
For the enemy there's only pain and sadness then death...

The song represents a person who is to locked in himself and everyone around this person is jolly and happy. This person considers himself a “enemy” of this world. In the end this person will die by it’s own self…with sorrow and pain in it’s soul. This song is one of my favorites of this band.

Ah well, This is one of the best songs on the "In requiem" album. Very dark and moody the whole thing.
The lyrical content is vauge at best though. as is always the way with Paradise lost, they leave interpretation up to the listener. Id say its about a generally unpleasant person, A liar, or someone who likes to talk rubbish with the aim of looking good. In the end though, this person is sad and hollow inside, knowing the words they speak about themselve aren't true.
Thats my overall thought on it.
