The Answer Lyrics

From ocean to sky
Summer and fall
I have been there though it all
From laughing and crying
To pain that comes easy
From shades of gray meaning
That turn out so sweetly
I wonder when
I wonder what I'll find...

I look up to the sun
It only hurts my eyes
Maybe it's the answer
I've been wanting in disguise
The more you are with me
The more that I'm alone
I don't need the answer I already know

Subtle and grace
Desperate for change
My hand moves away
Melt dry eyes for days
Something's not right
Smiles and tantrums
Hit the ground running
It's all over and been done
I wonder when
I wonder I'll find...

I look up to the sun
It only hurts my eyes
Maybe it's the answer
I've been wanting in disguise
The more you are with me
The more that I'm alone
I don't need the answer I already know

What happens next?
We'll stop and go
The promises has already run cold
So now you know
So now you know

I look up to the sun
It only hurts my eyes
Maybe it's the answer
I've been wanting in disguise
The more you are with me
The more that I'm alone
I don't need the answer
The answer

I look up to the sun
It only hurts my eyes
Maybe it's the answer
I've been wanting in disguise
The more you are with me
The more that I'm alone
I don't need the answer I already know

I swear. I get goosebumps every time I hear this song. It's a bit ambiguous but I reckon it's about a girl in a relationship with an on-and-off jerk, and she's trying to decide whether it's worth staying with him or just leaving. So like, 'I look up to the sun, it only hurts my eyes, maybe it's the answer I've been wanting in disguise' would mean that all this guy does is hurt her for no reason, and that's a sign that she shouldn't be with him, and 'The more that I'm with you, the more that I'm alone' would mean that the more time she spends with this guy, the more she realises that there's nothing there. And I guess that 'I don't need the answer, I already know' would mean that she doesn't need to wait and see how things pan out, she already knows that it wont work. But I'm probably wrong. Anyway, it's an amazing song and probably means a lot of different things to different people.

Let me be cliché when I say "WHY DOESN'T THIS HAVE COMMENTS?" But seriously, this is a great song. I love Juliet's voice. In the beginning, I think she's saying she's seen it all and she's been through it all. She's had great times and terrible times. Maybe she's never gotten anything right, perhaps past relationships, and when she's least looking for it she finds the answer she's needed all along: she's fine alone and no matter what she goes through, in the end she will be okay. I think she's been holding onto something -- someone because of the lines "the more you are with me, the more I am alone" this could be about a guy or maybe a half hearted friend. She's saying that keeping this person with her is making her more alone, and all she needs is herself.

This could be completely wrong what someone else thinks, but this is how I see the song.

LOVE THIS SONG!!! I don't quite get it, but I love Juliet's voice. (Has anyone heard her in "Remembering Sunday" by All Time Low?) This song is so pretty and I love it acoustic. I don't quite get it though, but whatever.

if youre saying you dont get "remembering sunday" I think it's about a guy falling in love with a girl that commits suicide

Stevie-missA I've heard her voice in remebering sunday...it was towards the end..she has a great falsetto. The lyrics r really good but the song sounds so sad :( tear

I think it's about God, and the narrator realizing that he doesn't exist.

My Opinion

I just think this song is about life in general, and how people sit and discuss the meaning of life when really the meaning of life is different for everyone. I think she's talking about all her experiences, and then turns away someone trying to tell her "the answer" because she feels she's found out herself through experience.

I agree about the song being ambiguous, I believe almost any song has room for multiple interpretations, but I also strongly believe its about a romantic relationship. She refers to this person as the sun, so its obvious she adored them. She also stuck through everything with them, to a point where she learned to accept the pain of being let down and the false hope they gave her of things getting better. She wanted an 'end all be all' sign because she could let them go, but the need for one was a sign in itself. I think towards the end, she finally lets them know how let down she felt, looks to the person for an answer, as if maybe by saying something it will change their behavior, but again shes proven wrong. I just came out of the same thing over Valentines Day. Its really hard to let go of someone go when you don't find anything to be the problem accept the fact they aren't wholeheartedly into you. You give it time thinking you can fix it, but you cant.
