Thrash Unreal Lyrics
If she wants to dance and drink all night
Well theres no one that can stop her
Shes going until the house lights come up or her stomach spills on to the floor
This night is gonna end when we're damn well ready for it to be over
Worked all week long now the music is playing on our time
Yeah we do what we do to get by
And then we need a release
You're gonna mix up with the wrong guys
You'll get mixed up on the wrong drugs
Sometimes our pride it takes us places you didn't really plan on going
When people see the track marks on her arms she knows what they're thinking
She keeps on working for that minimum
As if a high school education gave you any other options
You know
They don't know nothing about redemption
They don't know nothing about recovery
Some people just aren't the type for marriage and family
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to be a junkie
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to sleep alone
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to be a junkie
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to sleep alone
Shes out of sync with the style
She don't know where the actions happening
You know that down town club scene aint nothing like it used to be
You reach a point where theres not a lie in the world that you could use to make the boys believe you're still in your twenties
They keep getting younger don't they baby
Shes not waiting for someone to come over and ask for the privilege
She can still hear that rebel yell just as loud as it was in 1983
You know there ain't no johnny coming home to share a bed with her
And she doesn't care
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to be a junkie
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to sleep alone
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to be a junkie
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to sleep alone
No mother ever dreams that her daughters gonna grow up to be a junkie
And if she had to live it all over again
you know she wouldn't change anything for the world
Well theres no one that can stop her
Shes going until the house lights come up or her stomach spills on to the floor
This night is gonna end when we're damn well ready for it to be over

I feel like this song is about what society expects out of a woman, the expectations of the scene on women (since it's predominantly male-oriented), and a general expectation women have out of themselves.
I know that the writers of this song are not aware of what women expect out of themselves, but as a woman who used to be a punk rocker, I was torn between acceptance by men and still being thought of as a woman.
The scene has a chew-you-up and spit you out nature. Now that she's fucked, no one cares about her. And she's not society's definition of a lady, "No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to be a junkie/sleep alone." Society defines a woman as the man she is with, as the family she creates. She doesn't create a family? There must be something wrong with her. She takes on traditionally male traits? (Junkie, Single, Scene Life) She is considered abnormal or evil.
The irony is that if a song were written about a male with the traits of partying hard, sleeping with young women, staying single, and drinking and drugging, it would be celebrated. Several people have talked about this idea of the woman in a negative light.
See: Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse.
These women are demonized for their rebel ways and addiction problems.
See: Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix.
Will forever be loved and considered heros.
the people that typically demonize Courtney love, amy winehouse are not going to be the same people who praise kurt cobain and jimi hedrix. or if they do its certainly not for the partying and doing drugs aspect, love and winehouse constantly acted drunk or embarresed themselves in public/media and people naturally hold less respect for that, but you your right them being female no way helped peoples perception of the two. the main point of this song i my eyes is living the scene well past ones prime when others the same age have started settling...

The lead singer may know what women expect out of themselves now ( I realize the date of your post was before he got his sex change)

*You'll get MESSED up on the wrong drugs
*Sometimes THE PARTY takes us places you didn't really plan on going
*Shes out of STEP with the style
Yeah, these are pretty wrong.
Best song on the new album by far.
Sad song makes me sad
Let's hope not to turn out like her. But maybe she's the one who's got it right?
this song makes me sad too.

They wrote those songs how many years ago people change and grow and mature
do you feel the same way you did five years ago
they have to live and pay bills that cant have regular jobs and still tour so many days out of the year
but anyways i love this album and all the ones before
but if you like against me! you have to see them live all the albums pale in comparison
afterthought maybe their ideology did not change because "you can do alot more damage inside the system, than you can outside it"
SLC Punk
SLC Punk fucking sucks and is, as far as I can tell, an extremely poor, inaccurate and Hollywood-ish caricature of punk and anarchism.
That having been said, and being a great admirer of their earlier work, I must say that my initial reaction to New Wave was, like many others, that AM! had sold out.
However, upon further contemplation and re-listening without prejudice, I can only say that it is a great album. It's not in the same class as Crime, the Accoustic EP or RAR. Not the least. But the important thing to remember is that it never tries to be. Since those albums, AM! has developed strongly, a development which was already noticeable on releases such as The Disco Before the Breakdown. Listen to the title track or "Tonight We're Gonna Give It 35%" and tell me it is fundamentally similar in style to RAR (which was already far more Rock-ish than earlier releases). If you can do that, you're kidding yourself.
New Wave is not a folk-punk or accoustic punk album. That isn't its purpose. It is a Rock album, and taking that into consideration, it's a damn good one. The worst thing I can say about the album is that it is on Sire, owned by Warner Group, a member of the RIAA sons-of-bitches. Also, Butch Wig's remix of White People for Peace is horrendously bad.
Concerning the song in question, I have to agree that it is probably the best on the album. It proves that despite much has changed for AM!, they are still capable of writing profound and moving songs.
Why do you all have to say Against Me! sold out on every song listed on here? Stop being so goddamn pretentious. If I had the opportunity to make a living doing what I love I'd damn well take it and I'm willing to bet all of you would too.
Though, I've gotta agree with a lot of you, the new album pales in comparison with their older stuff... but I still love it. Once you make something as great as Reinventing Axl Rose it's probably pretty hard to surpass it.
I love this song; it's definitely my favorite on the album. Straightforward yet moving lyrics.
i am so fucking tired of hearing people say that against me! sold out. it's different, yes. it's on a semi-major label, yes. get over it! it's a good album and i am not disappointed with against me! at all. stop being so pretentious!
