Color Your World Lyrics

Ziltoid:
See how the ways of the world keeps lying to me
See how the weight of the world keep lying on me
Sooner or later the nights with the satyr
Will bring back the memory in time

See how the sight of it all keeps flying to me
Years of the power of all he's trying to be

Who's the weakest now?
Caught up in the wire...
I'm already gone
Who's the weakest?

I concede to life to do whatever I need.
What's in a life, but bodies?

"So confusing... confounding..."

But I'm Ziltoid!!! I don't give a shit!
I live above Earth in a big rocket ship!
I'm Ziltoid...the horror! The horror!

I'm Ziltoid!
The horror!
The horror!
The horror!
I'm Ziltoid!
The horror!
The horror!
The horror!

(far far far away)

Stay at home for me
You and I are free
To love, by the firewall
Tune out, for awhile

Stay at home for me (Ziltoid the Omniscient)
Comma lined are we
In time, you'll be gone again
Tune out for awhile...

Say I'm wasting all my life,
Say I'm wasting time...

Stay at home for me (Ziltoid the Omniscient)
You and I are free,
To love...

Omnidimensional Creator:
So in the end, it's beautiful...It's beautiful
Yes in the end, it's beautiful...So beautiful

You say you wanna know?
You say you wanna take it down...
You say you wanna know, no no!!!
Well Now's the only time...
Are you sure you wanna know?
Are you sure you wanna take it down,
Are you sure you wanna go, go go!!!

You're a puppet!

You are a puppet!
You are a puppet!
You are a puppet!
You are a puppet!

I am a puppet!
I am a puppet!
I am a puppet!
I am a puppet!

We are all puppets!
We are all puppets!

It seems to me (Might be overthinking it) that what Devin is trying to say here is that we ultimately don't have free will. His line "see how the ways of the world keep lying to me, see how the weight of the world keeps lying on me" is pretty much like saying what we see isn't reality and yet we still have to deal with the full weight of that reality even though we have no clue what it is. Even the phrase "I concede to life" could mean that you've essentially let the universe take the wheel. Ziltoids whole conquest was for control and power over space and time, but it's impossible as he is only a tiny component of both. I think that's when he hits the "I'M ZILTOID I DON'T GIVE A SHIT" stage, it's his ego not being able to come to terms with the fact that he is completely powerless and has no control. But after the ego fades the part of the song comes in saying that even if we have no control we are free to enjoy and love the present moment. We are riding the wave of causality that the universe has already set out for us and any action we've taken is essentially predetermined already, we are a puppet to the universe. Even the Omnidimensional creator stated that he was a puppet. The universe is pulling our strings. None of us chose the universe to exist as much as we didn't choose our own existence but you can accept that and still see that in the end the experience we're given is still so damn beautiful.

I fucking love this universe and I fucking love Devin Townsend

The middle section, with those beautiful arpeggios, just... wow. I saw this live, and nearly shed a tear.

This song really grew on me and has become my favorite of Devin Townsend.

Just the moods of this song tell a story of their own: The first part has this "It's all so unfair and meaningless!" kind of vibe, but slowly starts to build up to pure anger and feeling superior. Just by listening to the "I don't give a shit" part I can really see a person screaming the lines with their head held high, feeling superior to everyone. But very subtle, this anger turns more and more into desperation and the realization how fake this "strength" actually is. It really amazes me how this change is happening in such a short amount of time until the "far far far away" line part is starting. That part can really only be described as "eargasm", I get a shiver down my spine everytime I listen to it. The voices, the rhythm, the very subtle guitar solo accompanying it (it's so fitting that it isn't the dominant instrument in this part) - it's like each instrument represents thoughts that overlap into some sort of sad chaos. Really the most powerful part to me. When the arpeggios start we finally see how weak and "soft" Ziltoid actually is. Any aggression is completely gone. The moment the song is getting a bit more aggressive again is from the perspective of the Omnidimensional Creator who finally tells him the hard truth, so it seems to me that Ziltoid is completely broken at this point (note that "The Greys" is also one of the softer songs).

I can imagine that this is somehow connected to Devin's career as a musician, hence the references to older songs, as other users already noticed here. But I don't like assuming things about the composers of songs since music isn't always personal, so I won't go any more into that.

Putting aside the story about Ziltoid on this album, this song can reflect almost every person who's having some kind of low point in their life. You feel that everything is unfair in this world, and after a while you get so sick of it that you turn that feeling into anger. "Maybe everything is unfair, but I will be strong and defy it anyway!". At some point, however, this shell completely breaks apart and you fall even deeper than where you've been before, feeling completely weak and vulnerable. But this marks the point where you start to see what you really want in life.

The "you are a puppet" line, while it seems to be about aliens in the Ziltoid-Story, could easily be seen as "human nature" in that context. No matter who you are, in the end you have the same desires as everyone else. You are not special, you are not superior, you don't stand above it. The best example would be someone who was cheated on and lost their partner because of it. Although I haven't experienced it myself, I can imagine people going through the exact same stages as described before. But in the end, they need to open their heart for other people again.

I love the softly whispered "Ziltoid the Omniscient" in the one line, possibly a mocking tone. Actually the whole song is amazing, surprisingly profound and deep but not pretentious. I like to think the revelation that Ziltoid is a puppet is a tongue in cheek meta reference to the fact that Ziltoid is literally a puppet.

I love this song, the part at the end where Ziltoid's true nature is finally revealed is to me the ultimate climax of the album. Genius.

"Sooner or later the nights with the satyr will bring back the memory in time."

Same lyrics as in the SYL song Wrong Side...

I wonder about the connection, I really do.

Best lyrics ever.

Who's the weakest now? Caught up in the wire... I'm already gone Who's the weakest?

Are lyrics from Dev's song "Voices in the Fan." I guess with the SYL lyrics included its about how Dev grew out of Strapping and more into doing his own thing.

This album is NOT about coffee, you jackasses!!! xDDDDDDDDD

@FeelingShred This album is like our lives: we can't and don't comprehend why we exist or why we are here, but this doesn't mean we can have some freaking fun along the way xDDDDDDDDD
