Better Lyrics

Those things you thought that were obscene
we quickly made the old routine, i invited you over
and then we quickly get undressed
we simply took it off her chest, made a trade 'cause your sober

and it stings to remind you of all thats behind you
and i dont want to lose you right now
cause they say it gets better, at a point it gets worse
you know it gets better so of course it gets worse

your body's million dollar bills, you simply spend it all on some cheap thrill
but only when your older
you stop and point at your arm
but did you contemplate the heart
as it rolls up your shoulder

did it make you feel better? at a point it got worse
it used to make you feel better, but now it just hurts

imagine a world when im in love with you
i cannot go, because im addicted to...

you keep on comin' on to me
i keep crying over you
it shows me what is gonna be
it shows me what i mean to you

you keep comin on to me
ill keep on crying over you
it shows me what is gonna be
it shows me what i mean to you
you, 'cause your killing me

'as i believed in your lies
somone controls your mind
all those kept you alive
somone controls your mind
so they all control you

You, keep on coming on to me
i keep on crying over you
it shows me what is gonna be
it shows me what i mean to you

You, keep on coming on to me
i keep on crying over you
it shows me what is gonna be
it shows me what i mean to you
You, cause your killing me

You, keep on coming on to me
i keep on crying over you
it shows me what is gonna be
it shows me what i mean to you

You, keep on coming on to me
i keep on crying over you
this shows me what is gonna be
it shows me what i mean to you

You, keep on coming on to me
i keep on crying over you

You, keep on coming on to me
i keep on crying over you

and after all you can think it was my fault
but all along and all i know is that
your killing me

i thought he says: "You keep on coming over me" instead of coming onto me or crawling or calling.

This flows with the allusion of a high from morphine/heroin/other substance that you can shoot up. Highs from such substances come over you like a tidal wave.

I think the song is about a man who abuses his girlfriend but pays her afterwards and still feels guilty. He's wasteing all of his money on her that's how it's killing him but he wants to prove to her that he is a mature man. But he's just not able to. He's used to paying her to abuse her but he's so addicted her he can't help it.

A few corrections to the first part...

Those things you thought that were obscene Will quickly become your routine inviting you over An addict quickly gets undressed with something to get off her chest

Made a trade cause your sober It stings to remind you of all thats behind you But I don’t want to lose you right now

They say it gets better right before it gets worse You know it gets better so of course it gets worse

Your body’s made of dollar bills you spend it all on some cheap thrill But what when your older?

You stuck a point into your arm But did you contemplate the harm As it moves up her shoulder

Did it make you feel better right before it got worse It used to make you feel better but now it just hurts

And there’s no hope when I’m in love with you I can not cope cause I'm addicted too...

Thats about it thought I think he said "Crawling" and "Calling" for the first choirs.

I believe this song is about a woman he knows that uses sex for money, and with this money she buys drugs. He's seen what its done to her and this song is basically his reply to her, however, the last lines "and there's no hope when im in love with you, i can not cope, cause im addicted too.." this could either mean, he's also on drugs so he can't say anythign, or that he has another addiction, her. So he can't really say anything about her addiction because he loves her and not just the good things, he loves everything about her, he doesn't want her to change, but at the same time he is seeing her fall apart in front of his eyes

Correction

'at a point it gets worse' is supposed to be 'before it gets worse'.

K, here's my understanding broken down.

Summary: This captures a period in which a girl who the singer is romantically involved with is having withdrawal effects. Parts of the story reflect back to a period when she was still heavily involved with hard drugs.

"Those this you thought that were obscene will quickly become your routine"

This line suggests that at first she was squeamish about narcotics, however grew comfortable with them. It can also mean that the singer came to terms with the drug-abuse of his love interest.

"And he invited you over. An addict quickly gets undressed with something to get off her chest, you made a trade cause your sober"

At first glance it seems as though she is offering her body, however by the second part it reflects more of a admission of guilt, I believe this was the point she decided on being sober.

"And it stings to remind you of all thats behind you, but i dont want to lose you right now."

This line suggest a fight during the admission of guilt, where the singer points out all the horrible this she has done under the influence.

"Cause they say it gets better before it gets worse, you know it gets better so of course it gets worse"

The singer has finally conceded and trys to comfort the addict. He tells her it always feels good when your on a high, then withdrawal feels worse.

"Your body's made of dollar bills, you'd spend them all on some cheap thrill, but what when your older?"

This reflects back to before the admission of guilt. The line suggest that she was selling her body for the cash to support her habit (the dollar bills suggest a stripper, but who knows?) The singer probably phrased the last part of the line to her during her addiction

"You stuck a point into your arm, but did you contemplate the harm, as it moved up your shoulder.."

Obviously this part is about her using needles, ignoring the affect on her family/friends. The needle marks move up her shoulder showing a passing of time as well as increased use.

---- The next 2 lines are the same as one of the parts above ----

"And theres no hope 'cause im in love with you, i cannot cope, guess im addicted too."

The singer admits that he intensely loves her even through the abuse and addiction, and that he shouldnt judge her so harshly because he is addicted to her in the same manner she is addicted to drugs.

"You keep on coming over me, i keep on crying over you, it shows me what its come to be, it shows me what i mean to you, cause your killing me."

This part suggest that the girl, heavy in her addiction, turns their relationship to straight whoring herself out. She keeps going over to fuck the singer. He crys over the loss of their healthy relationship. He reflects that due to this, he knows what will happen and it proves to him that she now holds her addiction higher than her relationship, and he feels that her departure from the relationship will kill him.

"And after all you would think its my fault when all in all i know is that you're killing me."

The girl constantly blames the singer for the things that keep happening to her, and he just feels like the relationship is slowly ending him.

Thanks for reading, hopefully ive fully understood and broken down the song. powerful stuff.
