Seat Next To You Lyrics
A long slow drive down an old dirt road
You got your hand out of the window listening to the radio
That’s where I want to be
On an old park bench in the middle of December
Cold hard rain falling can’t find no cover
That would be alright with me
Hard days, good times
Blue skies, dark nights
Baby, I want you to take me
Wherever you’re going to
Maybe, say that you’ll save me
A seat next to you
In the corner booth of a downtown bar
With your head on my shoulder
Smoking on a cheap cigar
That would be all right with me
In the back row of a movie
Or a cross-town train
I want to hear your voice
Whispering my name
That’s where I want to be
Hard days, good times
Blue skies, dark nights
Baby, I want you to take me
Wherever you’re going to
Maybe, say that you’ll save me
A seat next to you
Life is like a Ferris wheel spinning around
When you get to the top it’s hard to look down
Just hang on
We’ll make it through
Save me
A seat next to you
When you get to the gates
And all the angels sing
Go to that place
Where the church bells ring and know I’ll come running
Running to find you
Baby, say that you’ll take me
Wherever you’re going to
And baby, I want you to save me
A seat next to you
A seat next to you
A seat next to you
A seat next to you
You got your hand out of the window listening to the radio
That’s where I want to be
On an old park bench in the middle of December
Cold hard rain falling can’t find no cover
That would be alright with me
Blue skies, dark nights
Baby, I want you to take me
Wherever you’re going to
Maybe, say that you’ll save me
A seat next to you

That would be all right with me

I want to hear your voice
Whispering my name
That’s where I want to be
Blue skies, dark nights
Baby, I want you to take me
Wherever you’re going to
Maybe, say that you’ll save me
A seat next to you
When you get to the top it’s hard to look down

A seat next to you
A seat next to you
A seat next to you

Love it. About someone who wants nothing more than to journey through life hand in hand with his girl.
One intepreation of this song is slighty deeper than the "being with the one you love" (i.e. wife, girlfriend etc.) Richie himself says that when writing this song the only person he thought about being with was his father (who had just died). Makes the middle eight (i think haha) especially more poignant
When you get to the gates And all the angels sing Go to that place Where the church bells ring and know I'll come running Running to find you
Great song any way you interpret it though :)
The first time i heard this song, I realized that this is what i would want for my wedding song. I know that might be wicked lame
I think these lyrics are soooo sweet. I love the lyrics so much.... Just being with the one you love in every day life.... Oh how amazing regular old life would be!
