Somewhere Between Waking and Sleeping Lyrics
Without blindness, there is no sight
You'd see further if you'd only close your eyes
In unconsciousness, I can find peace
Inside prison walls, I can find release
There is a place that I have seen
Somewhere between waking and sleeping
Down at the water's edge
Somebody waits for me
Is it to late for me?
It's never too late he says
(Without blindness (Without blindness))
(There is no sight (There is failure))
(You'd see further (People gather))
(If you'd (By the river))
(Close your eyes (They were talking))
(About the failure)
There is a place that I have seen
Somewhere between waking and sleeping
Leaning over the side
Trailing my fingertips
Feeling the water slip
Into the quiet night
Viewed from the wrong end of a telescope
I see myself, so far below
Still and silent, rest in peace
A thread unravels a merciful release
There is a place that I have seen
Somewhere between waking and sleeping
Now I can almost see
Figures upon the shore
He's gathering in the oars
Where are you taking me
You'd see further if you'd only close your eyes
In unconsciousness, I can find peace
Inside prison walls, I can find release
There is a place that I have seen
Somewhere between waking and sleeping
Somebody waits for me
Is it to late for me?

How is it that nobody has commented on this song yet? It's pure bliss. Like an artistic masterpiece expressed in sound. A perfect amount of ambience to actually put you in the place that they want you to be -- 'Somewhere between waking and sleeping'. Beautiful song. From an absolutely amazing band.
I absolutely love the lyrics for this song, they're so peaceful and almost mystical
Neil Hannon sings like a crooner of an orchestra..beautiful.
This song really does what it says in the title. It truely takes me away to another dimension. I see it as seeking deeper meaning into things, looking beyond the obvious.
It strongly reminds me of the days last year when I would spend hours on end just endlessly cycling, thinking about things, effectively in a trance. This song was always with me.

i think it is more about escaping reality.. to close your eyes and see further; it's about finding a place beyond the waking and sleeping space-time. to escape reality you just need to close your eyes and start thinking about all the things that make you happy; and you may find it when daydreaming or just sleeping... the place between sleeping and waking is where they want you to be.

someone who fell in love with the worng person, and feel like they cant forgive themself for it. like cheating on their loved one.
this person doesnt want to wake up from reality.
somewhere between waking and sleeping is the beauty of fleeting moments.
when they wake up (reality check), they see that someone is waiting.
the entire time, there was somebody who was there to protect and save them from their mistake. right in front of them.
but this person is still in a daydream or a daze of the reality and fantasy. its so wrong but so good, or maybe its bad and good all at the same time.
I think it's about dying and ascending to the afterlife and Jesus/Death/whoever being there to sail his soul away.
I think It's about lucid dreams
