yes.. when it rains is like a metaphor for 'when bad things happen', since usually rain is 'bad'.. and the person or people hayley is singing to just so happen to be depressed and considering suicide. (sorry this song makes me cry just listening to it..)

Halley wrote it for her friend who comited suicide.

When i first heard it i thought she might be singing about someone committing suicide.

"How could you do it? I never saw it coming."

Common thing people say when someone dies... Upon reading the lyrics it sounds more like a plea for someone to escape from their addiction/depression.

I'm not sure what this song means yet, but I love it anyways. When I first heard it, I knew right away it would be one of my favorite songs. It almost gives me chills in my spine. I love it.

My interpretation... well lets see...

I think she's basically saying that when things go wrong or not as planned it affects everything in her life, and she's asking him to tell her the truth about how he feels about them at that moment

Basically she says that he doesn't want to hear or experience it (you made yourself a bed at the bottom of the blackest hole) in the deepest place ever in himself so that he can't feel it, but it's still happening to her

And convinced yourself, that it's not, the reason you don't see the sun anymore;

He tricked himself into thinking that them being in the deepness of the rain isn't why he's so in deep, the reason why he's not social anymore...

And oh, oh? How could you do it? Oh, I, I never saw it coming. Oh, oh, I need the ending, so why can't you stay, just long enough to explain?

She's confused about why he would leave her to deal with all that was left of them, all that was left of her... and now she says that she wants to know what he was planning to do then and is asking for the answer

he will stay ignorant for the longest time, and then say that he wants to stay there and never wake up to what she's dealing with

alright so i think this song is about one of hayley's closest friends committing suicide. it's totally relevant and the whole song is just saying why did you give up on yourself and leave us all. it's a really emotional song. love it.

Ok ya this song could be related to a break up or depression of suicide. However if we compare this song to the scene in the twilight saga of new moon we will see that this explains the break up situation between Bella and Edward. "So why can't you stay longer to explain" Edward left right after he told her it was over. And he didnt stay long enough to explain. In the books edward ran away from his own family because of his depression. "Take these chances to turn it around lets take these chances we will make it somehow" in the book bella didnt give up on edward and she was willing to take the chances to make it work out again. So if you read the lyrics and compare it to this scene in new moon you will find that it compares well.

Love this song so much. Especially the opening line. "When it rains on this side of town it touches everything"

Such power in that line. Hayley is obviously singing from a depressed point of view as saying the rain touches everything means that everything in her life is dreary since whatever bad thing happened.

I think it's about someone committing suicide, mainly because of the line "You made yourself a bed at the bottom of the blackest hole" and that sounds like someone is in a grave now and it was by their choice.

Either way, I adore this song.
