How can I decide what's right
When you're clouding up my mind?
I can't win your losing fight
All the time

Now, can I ever own what's mine
When you're always taking sides?
But you won't take away my pride
No, not this time
Not this time

How did we get here?
I used to know you so well
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

The truth is hiding in your eyes
And it's hanging on your tongue
Just boiling in my blood
But you think that I can't see
What kind of man that you are
If you're a man at all
Well, I will figure this one out
On my own
(I'm screaming, "I love you so")
On my own
(But my thoughts you can't decode)

How did we get here?
I used to know you so well, yeah
How did we get here?
Well, I think I know

Do you see what we've done?
We've gone and made such fools
Of ourselves
Do you see what we've done?
We've gone and made such fools
Of ourselves

How did we get here?
I used to know you so well, yeah
How did we get here?
Well, I used to know you so well
I think I know
I think I know

There is something I see in you
It might kill me
I want it to be true

I seriously agree with hobomclacey. I've been listening to Paramore since 2005 too, and I think it's stupid that when bands finally get recognized for their talent, and get big, their original "fans" turn their backs on the band and say they suck or call them sell-outs. Paramore is an amazing band with great talent, that make amazing music. This song by the way is really good, and I just really don't understand how it makes them seem likes they've, "sold their integrity."

This song is AMAZING! I think it was especially made for Twilight and that being the case I think that the song is from Bella's AND Edward's point of view. The first verse is Edward's

"How can I decide what's right When you're clouding up my mind? I can't win You're losing sight All the time"

"Not gonna ever own what's mine When you're always taking sides But you won't take away my pride No, not this time Not this time"

Edward is scared and confused as to why he can't read Bella's mind. He's upset that she almost made him lose control and all these feelings are new to him.

The second verse is Bella's point of view and what she is feeling.

"The truth is hiding in your eyes And it's hanging on your tongue Just boiling in my blood But you think that I can't see What kind of man that you are If you're a man at all Well, I will figure this one out On my own (I'm screaming, "I love you so") On my own (My thoughts you can't decode)"

Bella knows that there is something that Edward is hiding. She doesn't know that he is a vampire yet, this is still at the beginning, confusing stages of their relationship. "My thoughts you can't decode" Edward is unable to read Bella's mind.

"Do you see what we've done? We've gone and made such fools Of ourselves Do you see what we've done? We've gone and made such fools Of ourselves"

Both Bella and Edward are scared of this newfound love and the consequences that may follow.

"How did we get here? I used to know you so well, yeah How did we get here? Well, I used to know you so well I think I know I think I know"

The chorus basically tells of the pre-conceived notions that they had of eachother. They thought they had the other all figured out but now they are in completely new territory.

"There is something I see in you It might kill me I want it to be true"

The last lines speak of the hope that the love will grow.

I am so excited for this movie!!! Harry Potter is still #1 in my heart!

A love song and this is how i see it for couples and/or relationships between friends:

Two people ( friends or couple ). One ( A ) is trying to help the other out ( B ) and A is being playing and/or being two faced by B ( her/his boy/girl friend or just friend) B is trying to keep secrets from A, who is trying to help and A can read the B, knowing that B is trying to keep a little of ( his/her ) identity and/or secrets away from A. And A knows it and its making him/her mad at B. So A trys to dig in deeper by questioning B and A can tell that B will do anything to keep from spilling the secrets to A. A is now wondering how is that some one he/she once knew is trying to play games with her/him. She can now read what type of person B is and is wondering if B even knows what type of person he/she is because B wont admit to the questions that A asked. So now A openly "tests" B to see how their relationship really is with each other. B fails and now "secretly" admits the tuths by avoiding the signs and clues he/she gave to A. Now that A has figured out B A still cares for be but wonders how did it come to this and why didint B openly tell A the secrets B kept from A. So B thinks he/she has A figured out after B realizes that A does know whats up but B really doesnt have A figured out b just think he/she does. So A just confronts B about everything and knows itll kill him/her in the inside and just shares a little to B about him/her self. So A knows everything about B and knows the secret about B even if it kills their relationship in the heart. Just as long as its true.

idk, it just never appealed to me. i tried reading it, and the more i got into the book, the more i foundit to be stupid, and the hype around it at my school was suffocating. so that's why i dont like it.

this may be slightly off the wall to be honest but apart from the obvious boy/girl love, i think this can relate to relationship with a controlling father or boyfriend

"I can't win You're losing fight All the time"

^nomatter how hard you try they always win.

"How did we get here? I used to know you so well"

^looking back on when the relationship didnt have any problems. What went wrong?

"The truth is hiding in your eyes And it's hanging on your tongue"

^even when nothing is said the tension is still there, waiting for an aargument

"But you think that I can't see What kind of man that you are If you're a man at all"

^can finally see through him though he doesnt know

"(I'm screaming, "I love you so")"

^confusion between loving and hating someone. even though they hurt you and you want to hate them you cant help but love them still

"We've gone and made such fools Of ourselves"

^the constant fighting is pointless because nothing can be gained from it

"There is something I see in you It might kill me"

^the hatred and anger eats away at you.

know this wasnt the intended meaning but ya. . what ye think?

This is what Haley said "because the song is about the building tension, awkwardness, anger and confusion between Bella and Edward. Bella's is the only mind Edward can't read and I feel like that's a big part of the first book and one of the obstacles for them to overcome. It's one added tension that makes the story even better." -- Hayley Williams, Paramore

So pretty much this song is about first love-in way.Where theres all this tension and awkwardness at first. You just have no idea where this exciting, yet strange infacutaion is taking you.And just like Edward and Bella we have no idea whats going on inside the other person's mind..as they don't know whats going in ours..Only Bella and Edward's relationship is much more intense :]

ugh. the song sounds good and all, but when i think about how it's written about fucking twilight, i cringe. such a poorly written series, and everyone loves it, and i don't understand. i might have lost like two points of respect for paramore because of this.

I love Twilight. This song is so perfs. I'm glad it was written for Twilight. It blends so well. There would be no better song to briefly describe what happens in the story. I just wish it wasn't at the end of the credits. I love this song. &it works so well with the story. It may have gotten even MORE popular (yah hard to believe) if people heard it throughout the movie. Instead of waiting to see if there was an extra scene at the end of the movie to hear it. Loveeeeeeeeee it<3

    My Interpretation

I think there are some errors in the lyrics. "Not gonna ever own what's mine" should be "Now can I ever own what's mine"

This is my take on the song. I think this whole song is based on Bella's point of view.

"How can I decide what's right? When you're clouding up my mind, I can't win you're losing fight all the time."

Edward is always on Bella's mind and she can't decide on whether turning into a vampire is the right thing to do. All she knows is that she wants to be with him forever.

"Now can I ever own what's mine? You're always taking sides but you won't take away my pride, not this time. No not this time."

She's referring to her life. She believes that it's her life and she should have the right to be turned into a vampire but Edward refuses to do it. The pride part refers to how she's determined to be transformed.

"How did we get here? I used to know you so well. How did we get here? I think I know. Do you see what we've done? Gone and made such fools of ourselves."

I'm not sure about this part but I think she's referring to herself. I can imagine her looking at the mirror and speaking to her own reflection. She doesn't know herself anymore because falling in love has changed her. She's making a fool of herself because she has fallen in love with a vampire.

"The truth is hiding in your eyes and its boiling in my blood, just hanging on your tongue... but you think that I can't see what kind of man that you are, if you're a man at all. Well, I will figure this one out on my own"

The truth part is referring to Edward's thirst for Bella's blood. It's just hanging on his tongue that he wants to drink it. Throughout the book she has always trusted Edward and was never fearful in front of him so Edward doesn't think that she understands how dangerous it is to be around him. The truth is that she does understand about the danger and that he is suffering from being around her and not being able to drink her blood. But she loves him too much to stay away and will figure everything out on her own (which takes us back to her decision on turning into a vampire, the only way they can be together forever, without making Edward suffer).

"Oh there is something I see in you It could kill me but I want it to be true."

Bella wants Edward to end her human life so that she can start a vampire life with him.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.

Sunglasses at Night
Corey Hart
In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.
