It's Crystal Meth, also known as "ice". The "toothless wonder" bit is the notorious long-term side-effect of meth abuse.
I love Megadeth, but fuck sanctimonious ending tracks like this from Rehab-Born-Agains. Is he talking about someone else, or is he really referring to himself?

I'll tell you one thing, Dave is an amazing person to me. His lyrics are thoughtfilling and interesting. He really knows how to get to your heart.
This song makes me feel horrible for people on ice. It's there fault they started, but still, it's sad.
To whiterabies, i read somewhere that it has nothing to do with Dave himself. He said it is just about people who use Meth and the affects it has on them. He said he asked some people he knew who were users so he could get the facts straight about it.
That's what I thought. But still, singing about someone else's problems is a little sanctimonious, don't you think? Not all users are addicts. (Not that I'm advocating it.)
who cares whether it's about Dave or just someone he knows , thats his buisness, the point is that it's perfectly worded imo and it's exelent that Dave cares about people enough to enlighten them about the negative power of addiction through song
Great song! Ending solo is intense! I've never done meth before but the solo feels like it builds up until the end its "bleeding fingers" and then it "dies". Just like a high from meth until the intense "overdose" do death from it. Megadeth's solos really do follow moods and lyrics nicely :D
i dont think its too sanctimonious...i mean...its not like hes saying literally "dont do meth. it is bad. i never did drugs"

anyways...not my favorite on the album....but its still on one of the best megadeth albums to date.
Best song from UA, hands down. The solos are fantastic.
