I like this song. Not usual Santana but it's catchy and I like what the songs about. Finding happiness in your life even though you've been through some hard times(love life, friends, etc). Found a girl, "Lady luck" who seems to treat him good and he's winning in his new perspective of life.
Amazed there aren't more comments on this one. Beautiful song about having bad things happen to you but yet overcoming it all with a sense of well-being and a sense that you are in some way blessed just to be alive. Has spiritual / Christian overtones even. Love this tune.
I agree...A beautiful song about what life is really about...over-coming and realizing that life is simply a roller coaster ride and with all the fear and aapprehension one feels before the ride, when it is all overand done, it's like "Let's do that again!!!!" Great song!!!!!!
I like this tune a lot. I heard it on the radio a lot as a kid, but never knew which artists performed it. As I began to search for it on the internet & Santana came up, I figured it was a mistake. There was no way in my mind mind that this was a Santana song. Needless to say, I was wrong.
I like the simplicity of the song. It's pretty mainstream/poppy for Santana, but they have produced some amazing and widely varying music over the years, so this one does not count against them.
As far as interpretation goes, I agree with the previous comments. It seems to be about someone who had been going through a very tough time in life, and it really had an impact on his self-esteem. When he meets someone new, it changes his whole perspective.
A part of me feels that this song is incomplete, insomuch that it needs another verse in order to conclude the story, or at least fill in some gaps. At the same time, part of the song's appeal that it doesn't really say much. Instead, it leaves the listener to to think the song through, and come away with his/her own interpretation.
It's a Russ Ballard Song, Santana did not write it. I figured the same thing.

I take it this song has nothing to do with Charlie Sheen whatsoever. Although I wouldn't be surprised if some do see a connection. Still, I think it's a great song and one of Santana's overlooked hits IMHO.
Great song to wake up to everyday or start a workout everytime. Since everyone has life challenges my belief is everything starts with a thought and your mind controls your behaviors, beliefs and actions. This song starts slow, ramps up and stays positive about getting knocked down and getting up stronger, better...EVERYTIME. @thesalesdr
The give away in this song is the words "I'm new born now" which could mean born again christian. I say this because I can relate, when we try and do this our way and push God away, we start to live by the sword whether we like it or not, we live by our own way, but as we grow and sometimes find out, in this crazy world we can not do it by ourselves, we feel lost and empty and like losers and as much as we think we can create our own destiny, in the end we create our own chaos through our own wants, lusts and desires, We live this for a while until we see our lives self destructing before our very eyes and feel alone, lost, empty wanting to die looking for answers, only then do we cry out for help and use the God and like lady luck ask and you shall receive, seek and you will find. We then realize we can not make it through this life on our own without the one who knows us better than we know ourselves, then we discover the word and it starts to grow inside of us and heals us from within, we feel like we are winning and healing, and never want to return to what we were before.
