Story Lyrics

do you need all the things you want?
are you pleased with the way things are?
wear that dress to protect the scar
that only i have seen
do you give just to please yourself?
do you wish you were somewhere else?
you justified all the things you try
said that it was all for me

be near just for the moment
stay here never go home
did you know, that every thing she ever does is for you?
so it goes
as the story of a broken heart comes true,
it comes true

have you learned all the secrets yet?
were you burned by the things i said?
took the dive just to feel alive
but never heard the truth
now i'm in love but i don't know how
and i'm in pain cause i want it now
and as i sit watching her eyes close
i slowly open mine

be near just for the moment
stay here never go home
did you know, that every thing she ever does is for you?
so it goes,
as the story of a broken heart comes true,
comes true

i am so confused by this
i know that life is hit or miss
days have stung by too much sun
i think that you may be the one
cover yourself up in me
drowning in what could have been
i will listen to your pain
if you listen to me

did you know, that every thing she ever does is for you?
so it goes, as the story of a broken heart comes true
did you know, that every thing she ever does is for you?
and i know, the story of a broken heart comes true

comes true
true
comes true
true

General Overview: I think this story (ba ddum chh) revolves around a dysfunctional relationship. The woman is head over heels in love with the man, and does everything possible to make him happy, but the man takes her granted. He leaves her alone in her bed as he is out doing God knows what, and doesn’t realize how much he’s hurting her. But she’s just too in love to leave. Eventually he realizes what he’s doing and begins to start anew, I think it’s the contrasting opposite to “Losing My Mind”

There are some inclinations that he knows what he’s doing and realizes she’s not going to leave (Do you mean all the things you are?/Are you pleased with the way things are?) She goes out and pretends that everything is fine with the relationship, even though she’s broken on the inside and her boyfriend is the only one that knows. (Wear that dress to protect this scar, that only I have seen) But even with this knowledge of continuing their dysfunctional relationship, breaking her ever more. And the chorus is his conscience telling him to stop what he’s doing and to realize that she’s done so much for him and he’s done so little for her and is hurting her. And he is making “the story of a broken heart come true” Eventually, as she’s sleeping I guess, he finally realizes he’s messed up and needs to fix things. He confronts her about his misdoings and naturally she listens. He’s confused by being in love with her, (presumably he wasn’t before) and teeters between love and screwing her over. (Days are stung by too much sun, I think that you may be the one) He decides that they should talk it out; she will tell him all her pain and he will tell her how he feels (I will listen to your pain, if you listen to me) One can assume she eventually forgives him and they move on with their relationship, woo!

This is a brillian song! Shamefully no comments. Here's a link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDpORqCZXTQ&mode=related&search=

I love the line 'i think that you may be the one' he sings it with so much conviction I feel a little shudder.

I like to think he's assuring himself over the girls feelings for him, finally knowing that she is in love with him "Everything she ever does is for you" They've had a rocky relationship and seperately she's had a difficult past: "wear that dress to protect the scar that only i have seen" "do you wish you were somewhere else" "were you burned by the things i said?" "i will listen to your pain"

To me the lyrics read that they often fight and don't know each other as well as they need to get along clearly. In their last argument the things he said were explosive "Have you learned all the secrets yet? Were you burned by the things I said? Took the dive just to feel alive..." Possibley meaning that he shouted hurtful things in the spur of the moment "....But never heard the truth" But never shouted the most important thing that he hates her for: he's fallen in love with her and he doesn't know how or why, and as she sleeps later on that night he has this revelation, simultaneously realising that she loves him too ("i slowly open mine")

Being confused over how, why and why he can't have her now, he figures that if their relationship can't be salvaged quickly the sometimes unavoidable will happen "The story of a broken heart [could come] true". So he invites her to talk things out so they can fix their problems ("Be near, just for a moment Stay near, never go home") He tells her all he has come to find, and despite their arguing and their pasts, the "days have stung by too much sun", he loves her and wants them both to forget their anger, love each other and share everything.

What a beautiful story.

Did you know That everything she ever does is for you So it goes That the story of a broken heart comes true It comes true

I personally think this song is about a boy who is in love with a very good friend of his, but she is in love with another person. The thing is that this other person takes advantage of her. I think the boy is very upset by this and he wants her to love him, but he knows she is in love with this other guy, so he's basically telling this guy that she does everything for him.

Anyway, that's my opinion. I hear something really sad in this song. I love the guitar part.

USER1910 had a great interpretation. I think that's right, that he wants her to forget everything they fought about and just love each other. At first, he didn't mean to fall in love with her, but he did, and now he understands how important it is and all he wants to do is share it with her and remember it. Send me an email sometime, USER1910. :)

I think this song is about a guy who is in love with his best (female) friend. He knows stuff about her that nobody else knows ("wear that dress to hide those scars that only I have seen"). But she's in love with someone else, but this guy doesn't love her back either, and is oblivious ("did you know that everything she ever does is for you?") Eventually, the singer gets with this girl, but she really can't make herself fall in love with him ("you justified all the things you did, you said it's all for me"). The singer is basically saying that he wishes she would just fall in love with him already instead of pretending ("cover yourself up in me, drowning in what could have been. I will listen to your pain if you listen to me.") He simply wants her to love him the way she loves the other guy. I love this song... so very pure and true.
