Within striking distance from Ground Zero sits a smoldering international cauldron
The United "Abominations" as it were
Forged to prevent wars and froze in the face of disaster
And stood silent while terrorization took hostage of the world

In a mire of hypocrisy, the UN ignored sex crimes by its blue helmets
And enables terrorism, so, in the end, it's failed
And the UN is where our so-called friends get to stab us in the back
And we pay twenty-two percent of their tab to host our enemies here at home

Ambassadors from countries otherwise known as a catastrophe
Enjoy diplomatic immunity living in Manhattan
While their children are turned into prostitutes
It's a complete and utter disgrace, a blot on the face of humanity
And they get away with it

Poverty in their kitchens
Held hostage by oil-for-food
Yet their own plates are full of the fat of their lands
There's no blood on their hands, right Ko-Jo?
They promised to tell the truth
Without leaving a fingerprint
They will lose the U.N. one way or another
The victim, I fear, will be us, sisters and brothers

The U.N. is right; you can't be any more "un"
Than you are right now; the U.N. is undone
Another mushroom cloud, another smoking gun
The threat is real, the Locust King has come
Don't tell me the truth; I don't like what they've done
It's payback time at the United Abominations

A grave and gathering danger
The decision to attack
Based on secret intelligence; it'll take years
I fear to undo the failings in Iraq
You may bury the bodies
But you can't bury the crimes
Only fools stand up and really lay down their arms
No, not me - not when death lasts forever

The U.N. is right; you can't be any more "un"
Than you are right now; the U.N. is undone
Another mushroom cloud, another smoking gun
The threat is real, the Locust King has come
Don't tell me the truth; I don't like what they've done
It's payback time...

The U.N. is right; you can't be any more "un"
Than you are right now; the U.N. is undone
Another mushroom cloud, another smoking gun
The threat is real, the Locust King has come
The U.N. is right; you can't be any more "un"
Than you are right now; the U.N. is undone
Another mushroom cloud, another smoking gun
The threat is real, the Locust King has come
Don't tell me the truth; I don't like what they've done
It's payback time at the United Abominations

NATO invaded Yugoslavia to end ethnic cleansing, there was no U.N.
The U.S. invaded Afghanistan after 9/11, there was no U.N.
Saddam Hussein violated seventeen U.N. resolutions
The U.N. was asked to join the war in Iraq
The U.S. invaded, there was no U.N.
Libya bombed a discotheque in Berlin killing Americans, there was no U.N.
And Iran funds Hamas and attacked the U.S. in the seventies, there was no U.N.
Facing war without end, looking into the future, there was no more U.N.

    My Opinion

The UN should have at least mediated the whole 9/11 and aftermath attacks thing... Isnt that what they were originally intended to do? They just sat back and did squat!! They watched a group of nations INVADE another country and just sat there twiddling there thumbs looking the other way.. The UN should be disbanded, they are useless when it all boils down to it. For some, 9/11 was the big awakening that we all needed. Question everything you see and hear. Don't be a puppet. Know everybody, trust nobody and paddle your own canoe.

I can see that we're all probably megadeth fans here and should probably know daves attitude towards the government. I think he's using sarcasm in this song. thats all i got to say, he knows all!!!! xD

Pro-Bush? No way, otherwise Dave wouldn't have called them "the failings in Iraq". Yeah, Bush screwed up going there, but it's gonna take us a while to clean up our mess.

That aside, this is a really good song. More controlled and less frantically-paced than the older Deth stuff, but good nonetheless. I think the best song from this album, tho, is a tie between Sleepwalker and Washington Is Next.

This is not Pro-Bush, Mustaine does not agree with going to the war but he believes now they are there you have to support the troops. He spoke out about this in an interview. This song makes the point of the United Nations standing back not doing anything even though Iraq had violated it's resolutions. The United Nations should have joined the war with America or at least backed them up because of this however they just stood back and did nothing like everything else as what is sung about in this song.

Musical-wise the song is excellent, great melody

To people saying the lyrics are wrong--

Some months before United Abominations was released, there was a contest on the Megadeth forums where you had to guess the song lyrics to the title track, given all the words in the song in alphabetical order. This song was submitted to SM.net after the contest, and was an early version of the song before it's actual release. In the time before it's release, the lyrics were changed (Most notably the last line in the chorus) and it hasn't been edited here, therefore, the lyrics are wrong.

United nations is a tool of America. It has absolutely no power. This song just doesn't make any sense.

US stepped in coz' UN was unable to do anything? Funny indeed.

Good song though. I just don't pay attention to the lyrics. Megadeth has changed. I miss the 'Countdown to Extinction' Mustaine.

It's not anti-UN or anti-anybody for that matter. However, it reveals very much how the United Nations has failed to do anything for the well being of anybody, and how they fail to keep other nations in line...yet another beautiful example of how Megadeth is very deeply politically charged in their music. The United Abominations as an album is amazing, and I strongly believe that it is one of their better albums to date.

I can't really say anything 'bout the meaning of the lyrics, 'cause I don't know much about US-politics. I can say though that this is one of the best Megadeth songs ever, one of the bests on the album. I really enjoy the 'new' megadeth and think they (Dave) have just morphed into such a great band after all these years. I love the solo's and the verse riff and the chorus... damn I love this whole song.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
