The Limit to Your Love Lyrics
Clouds part just to give us a little sun
There's a limit to your love
Like a waterfall in slow-motion
Like a map with no ocean
There's a limit to your love
Your love, your love, your love
There's a limit to your care
So carelessly there
Hear the truth or dare
There's a limit to your care
I love, I love, I love
This drink in my stream
I love, I love, I love
The trouble that you give me
I know, I know, I know
That only I can save me
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go
Lie down the rules
There's a limit to your love
Like a waterfall in slow-motion
Like a map with no ocean
There's a limit to your love
Your love, your love, your love
You can't really smile
It should be written on your face
I'm piecing it together
There's something out of place
I love, I love, I love
This drink on my stream
I love, I love, I love
The trouble that you give me
I know, I know, I know
That only I can save me
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go
Out on the road
Because there is no limit
There's no limit, no limit, no limit, to my love
Like a waterfall in slow-motion
Like a map with no ocean
There's a limit to your love
Your love, your love, your love
So carelessly there
Hear the truth or dare
There's a limit to your care
This drink in my stream
I love, I love, I love
The trouble that you give me
I know, I know, I know
That only I can save me
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go
Lie down the rules
Like a waterfall in slow-motion
Like a map with no ocean
There's a limit to your love
Your love, your love, your love
It should be written on your face
I'm piecing it together
There's something out of place
This drink on my stream
I love, I love, I love
The trouble that you give me
I know, I know, I know
That only I can save me
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go
Out on the road
There's no limit, no limit, no limit, to my love

I'd like to give an alternative explanation.
What if it's a fight? A protest from the girl to the boy, beautifully wrapped?
The 'limit to your love' part might be to show the guy what he is doing wrong. The title could very well be a strong reproach. However, it starts with 'a little sun' to break the status quo and to keep the door open; to forgive mistakes.
Then follows the protest part. He is not showing all he feels. So the fight is upstream, slow motion, a map that shows only half of his true feelings. That is why he can't really smile and chooses to hide his feelings. Out of pride...
With this song she is trying to break that situation, to find the 'ocean' part of the puzzle. She knows only she can find the missing pieces and has to go on the road to find them. Part of that road is writing this song and showing he's doing something wrong. It could be defience...
She's absolutely sure about herself; 'something is out of place'. But it's not easy to finish the puzzle. It almost seems like she dares him to admit, by showing she herself is not holding back and has no limits to her love.
Whatever it is, it's a great song!
It's about a girl who is so in love with someone but they dont really feel the same way. They dont show really show their feelings. So the girl decides to move on because she needs to find someone who can really love her.
beautiful song too.one of my favs.
I think this song is about the guy only showing only giving a little bit of love. He doesn't love all the way.
I think she says, "I love.... the dream of going upstream"
i think this song is more about him not knowing how to truly love and care in the same way that she has the capability to. sometimes people love differently. i dont feel it is that someone is NOT in love, or not loving all the way. there is either a yes or no to love, not a partial love. him being insecure makes him afraid to show it, or he doesnt know how to show it. as much as she can to him.
I think there are boundaries to love that her partner has. She is saying that her love has no boundaries. Her love is endless, deep, compassionate.... Some people just love LOVE. Her partner gives her pain, but she is intrigued by this person. Even though she knows they are not compatible, she plays with the idea of something with this person. In the end it never really fully develops, she knew it wouldn't. It is a really gorgeous song.
i loved this song before i was in a relationship and now i'm in one where this is very suitable to my situation. isn't it funny how things work out sometimes...
I think the song is about a relationship. One of the partners is truly in love with the other, but the other just can't give that love back. He/she just has got other priorities - and the first one accepts this, because whatever these priorities are, the first one loves the other one (also) for doing exactly that, and so accepts it the way it is.
I knew this song for quite a while, but I didn't really care for the lyrics just until recently, when I heard the excellent cover version from James Blake. Now this reminds me alot of the situation in a passed partnership, where my girl, suffering from some kind of borderline syndrome, just couldn't love me the whole way. There was this point, when she split up in the heat of a moment, where I knew I couldn't change anything in the long run, if I'd have tried to put us back together (again). It was really hard for me, but...

The song is about two people in love. One is afraid, they're guarded. Thats why there's a limit to love and care. Its not that they DO NOT love or care, but its limited right now. The other person understands that, which is why they're 'going,' for a while- waiting.
i love when she says "i'm piecing it together" thats my favorite part of the whole song
i love i love i love this songggg
