The Sacrilegious Scorn Lyrics

Have I not
Been too long in your shadows of invention and creation?
As I rightfully behold the flesh
Fear of the conscious mind will have you facing away

My word and world holds ground and is real
Your world is like floods of poisoned water
A language spoken with spit from different tongues

It all seems like an eternity
This battle between us two
"Good and evil"
Me and you

Time has come to step up
And take back what you took from me

My word and world holds ground and is real
Your world is like floods of poisoned water
A language spoken with spit from different tongues
You can never corrupt me again

Your world is like floods of poisoned water
A language spoken with spit from different tongues
You can never corrupt me again

I protect every man guilty of sin
The ultimate sin being me
The vapour from the plague
That infested my mind, body and soul
Obscured my view from wisdom
The mist that had me wonder in resentment cleared
And troubles me no more

i of the opinion that the shagrath is talking from the viewpoint of lucifer the fallen. "have i not been too long in your shadows of invention and creation" this seems to me that it is lucifer speaking as a bitter fallen angtel? has he not endured enough torment yet? he is saying that christ lies while lucifer holds truth. the line " good and evile me and u" "you can never corrupt me again" and " i protect everyman guilt of sin the ultimate sin being me" seems to correlate my theory. any thoughts?

@Origa that's exactly how I was viewing it. I see it as Lucifer talking to God from his fallen point of view. "Ultimate sin being me" is that Lucifer was/is the light (truth) bringer to mankind and our free will/thought is basically the ultimate sin .

Sounds like it follows the theme/story of the album. The writer is saying that Christianity has held Satanism down for too long and it's time to make up for "lost ground" so to speak. It's fundamentally about being free from the "lies, corruption, poison" used by Christianity to control him.

I love this song.

You are totally right cruiserfun! Also we can understand this ICS VORTEX talks to the kross as "your world is like floods of poisoned water..." in the video-clip. And the words "you can never corrupt me again" best describe the meaning...

great! i like it.. the band, the album, the s0unds, and the lyrical meaning...

I want to know what these lyircs are about, I have been looking at them for a while and I don't know can someone help me ? :D

First you should understand that Dimmu Borgir has a strange belief system that merges Devil Worship (reverse Christianity, Thiestic Satanim) Paganism and Lavey Satanism (naturalistic, athiestic Sataism), Luciferianism, and Gnosticism.

The song is talking about how before the spread of Catholicism, the world had many gods (Which we call "Pagan" gods now) this includes the Greek, Roman, Egyptian etc. myths and religions of those times. Catholicism spread through with the inquisition, which was where the Catholic church murdered millions of people, unless they accepted Catholicism as the one true faith.

AWSOMNESS

I tried doing the 'double voice' thing, but probably that's only a double recording.

Silenoz does backing vocals as well. Silenoz backs Shagrath in various parts of the songs.

I am of the opinion that this song is about satanism being the major religion in place of christianity. Sort of like a reversal of roles.

This song is about God and Satan fighting...

It all seems like an eternity This battle between us two "Good and evil" Me and you

It is referring to Satan when it says..

The ultimate sin being me

And referring to demons when it says..

I protect every man guilty of sin

And as it appears, God is insulting Satan when it says..

My word and world holds ground and is real Your world is like floods of poisoned water A language spoken with spit from different tongues You can never corrupt me again

In conclusion, Satan feels he needs to step up and get even with God

Time has come to step up And take back what you took from me

Have I not Been too long in your shadows of invention and creation? As I rightfully behold the flesh Fear of the conscious mind will have you facing away [Could be Satan, but could also be humans (God's children) believing in Satan or wanting freedom from religious scrutiny]

My word and world holds ground and is real [Athiests? We believe in what we see, feel, hear...] Your world is like floods of poisoned water [Could be referring to athiests, particularly in the 'dark ages', where religion was rampant and any scientific advancement could result in death. God's world is not as "good", when all the pain and suffering (and idiocy) to get there is recognized.] A language spoken with spit from different tongues [Many gods, remember. Same principles, really -> no to advancement. Hence, the spit from different tongues. Could also be referring to the masses following different faiths, no doubt advocating ]

It all seems like an eternity This battle between us two [ Religion, as weird as it can be, has been around for centuries. There's always been athiests.] "Good and evil" Me and you [Is questionable, what "good" really is, let alone "evil". Maybe referring to people yet again. We, like god would be, are not strictly 'good' or 'evil' ]

Time has come to step up And take back what you took from me [Take back our (people, not satan or god) freedom from other's idiocy and blind faith, as well as their ultimate greed.]

some ideas, not all. My interpretation, I could be completely wrong. Love the song, though. Lyrics are really good.
