I could drag you to my chambers
And strip you naked in darkness
I could pull your fingernails out one by one
And rape you till you find no hope

I could rip your guts out
And let you watch me
Sacrifice your unborn child
I could leave you to starve
And even bring you to total silence
For once

For I find no pleasure in your physical pain
I want your Christian soul to crumble

Your fucking soul

When I have seen your church go up in flames
And you are weeping I will laugh
When I have seen you mourn over loved ones
I will feel bliss when your mortal soul is in ruins
I will grin in the shadows
For that gives me pleasure

Tormenting a Christian soul

I think you guys are taking this just a bit too seriously. This is black metal folks... the horror genre of music. I doubt the artists really worship satan and just because they have hatred for christianity does not make them satanists. However I'm aware that they use satanic imagery and such for aesthetic purpouses. I question the intelligence of anyone who believes in any god or gods or who worships any devil. You would be nothing more than an inverse christian. Islam, Christianity, Judaism ect are all alike in that they are man-made. fairy tales and myths to explain the unknown. Eventually mandkin will grow out of its infancy and discard just idiotic beliefs. To to the person who asked "What if your wrong? what if christians are right?" Well the likelyhood of there being an afterlife is so very slim that it is hard to take it seriously however if there was and it turned out the christian deity was true... I'd rather burn in hell than spend an eternity in heaven serving such a tyrant. However there is another side of the coin you are missing. What if you are wrong? what if you are worshipping the wrong god? Everytime you pray your just pissing him off more and more. I mean the safest bet would to be neutral, to be an atheist. Anyways great song... but dont look too deeply into it.

No one cares if you're Christian or if it's offensive to you. Fuck off.

Although I'm a Christian (though a very liberal one), I love this song, and this band. I don't care much for the lyrics, but I'm not going to be a pussy and let my fear of Satanic lyrics get in the way of my love for great, accomplished, awesome pieces of musical genius such as this song.

Hahahahaha I really love this site. And I escpecially love all these people who are commenting this song... it is always as amusing. The meaning of this song, so that you FINALLY understand that this is not plain shit: The "satanist" tells us all those things he/she could do with a christian to torment the christian. But the "satanist" won't do that, because he/she doesn't find pleasure in that. Instead, the "satanist" will remain calm in the shadows - he/she doesn't even need to touch the christian with one finger, or anything - and laugh at the poor christian when he find him/herself in trouble. You may not like what it says, but it is still a good way to express "don't start killing your enemies, stand in the shadows and behold as they get ruined psychically, and then laugh at their misfortune". If we talk about the musical part, it is a great song, symphonic black metal \m/

..... I didn't listen to this song yet, but the lyrics are sick. As far as I know, Dimmu Borgir is mostly writing these songs for image, and probaly because of their religion. I think it's a really shitty that people want to spit and throw dirt on other peoples religions as many people say. I say shame on Dimmu Borgir that they come up with an image like this. It's really unnecessary. Normal humanbeings respect other people and their opinions. At least try as much as they can. I'm something between an atheist and a christian, and I say satanism is bad, but I would NEVER say "fuckin' satanic", because they have an own opinion, which I respect, but my opinion is that satanism shall be stopped. And unholy_apparition: maybe if it was supposed to be a slap in the christians face, but don't worry, christians won't care that much about you, I hope you can sleep well now =)

Another Love
Tom Odell
I think the meaning is pretty clear. This person got really burned in a previous relationship, and because of this is unable to love and show care in his present one, even though he so badly wants to. It's lovely song, and very sad. You can really feel how defeated and frustrated he is with himself.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

Sunglasses at Night
Corey Hart
In the 1980s, sunglasses were a common fashion for people who wanted to adopt a "tough guy" persona (note all the cop shows from that era -- Simon & Simon, Miami Vice, etc. -- where the lead characters wore shades). So I think this song is about a guy who wears shades as a way of hiding his insecurity after learning that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He's trying to pretend that he's a "tough guy" to hide the fact that his girlfriend's affair is disturbing him.

System
Mel And Kim
Just listening for the 784,654th time....and it's just perfect in every way. Just incredible. The only reason it was remade was to scoop up a boatload of money from a more modern and accepting audience. But it is a completely different song than the other one that sounds slapped together in a few takes without a thought for the meaning. This song captivates me still, after 50+ years. Takes me to the deep South and the poverty of some who lived thru truly hard times. And the powerful spirit of a poor young girl being abandoned to her future with only a red dress and her wits to keep her alive. She not only stayed alive, she turned her hard beginnings around, became self sufficient, successful and someone with respect for herself. She didn't let the naysayers and judgers stop her. She's the one sitting in the drivers seat at the end. So, not a song about a poor girl, but a song of hope and how you can rise up no matter how far down you started. There is a huge difference between a singer who simply belts out a song that is on a page in front of them, and someone who can convey an entire experience with their voice. Telling not just a story with words, but taking you inside it and making you feel like you are there, with their interpretation.

The Last Dance
Within Temptation
@Kahiara Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.
