don'tcha think its about MK's wife and true love---Kitty Aldridge? i have the impression from interviews i've watched and other such things that they share a great love of history. she's even written a book (or two?) that's about a common man and his withdrawn granddaughter. hence "shot me with a cannonball of history and long-forgotten art." they seem crazy about each other. the lyrics fit them very well.

the idea of someone you love having a "golden heart" to you is great. i'm trying to figure out more of the meaning to this though! any ideas?
I think it is a pure & simple love song from a male perspective. From his 1st sighting of her beauty to her finding her amulet. I love the lines "Then we swirled around each other and the thread was spun To some arcadian band I would stop it from swinging like a pendulum Just to hold time in my hand" To me the imagery is song, dance and love. Holding her heart in his hand would stop time. I just love this song!!

I get the feeling this song is about both a piece of jewelery (golde heart) and a woman. And while he is separated from this woman the heart and the woman are one and the same as the golden heart holds all of their memories and is a constant reminder of their love.

I think this song is about the great Horatio Nelson, and his affair he had. It was a toughing story about a great naval hero, and brave man who loved a woman, which was not his wife.
