A Goat in Sheep's Rosary Lyrics
A coarse exhalation of lungs that pray for pity
my two fingers punching the keys diligently
trembling ground pushes my glass off the table
spilling the blood of the son of your idol
if it were not for this extensive bug collection
i would know not what ive found
this world would still be flat
mary would be a virgin
and i would still be sleeping sound
if every word is a dead symbol
empowered by the carriers expression
ill bury my instrument citing this incident
im a flickering bulb that keeps blaming the filament
the most honest telling of this borish fable
is that on level ground im never feeling stable
but ive got to try to outlast this candle
or trust department to fight the inferno
if it were not for this extensive book collection
i would know not what ive found
this world would still be flat
mary would be a virgin
and i would still be sleeping sound
its an endless quest to maintain
when no one is ever right
and out on the fertile plains
we bathe in fractured rays of sunlight.
my two fingers punching the keys diligently
trembling ground pushes my glass off the table
spilling the blood of the son of your idol
i would know not what ive found
this world would still be flat
mary would be a virgin
and i would still be sleeping sound
empowered by the carriers expression

im a flickering bulb that keeps blaming the filament
is that on level ground im never feeling stable
but ive got to try to outlast this candle

and i would still be sleeping sound
when no one is ever right
and out on the fertile plains
we bathe in fractured rays of sunlight.

This song has such an amazing atmosphere to it. One of my favorite songs on the album.
Does anyone know what that guy says at the end? it sounds like something about slavery and hard work and some other stuff.. his voice almost reminds me of Candyman
@lbcguy523 Lol, I thought the same thing when I first heard this song.

ummm what I can make out is:
"They say our country was built on hard work and integrity and worshipin' God. That's a lie. This country was built oh murder and mayhem, slavery,..."
what i can understand from the guy at the end is " They say this country was based, was based on hard work, and integrity, and, and, worshipin' God. That's a lie ha ha ha. It was never, it was built on murder man, mayhem, slavery, and oppression. Lies. Theiving and killing, that's what it's based on"
i dont know how i came up with this but i see it as promoting experimentation and the idea that harsh and sometimes ignorant actions can become something good.
This song is pretty obvious, its doubting christianity.
the title pretty much says it all:
A Goat In Sheeps Rosary
its basically saying someones being treated and believed to be the son of god, but really isnt a goat is a less hailed animal compared to a sheep which is in reference to christ
The chorus ios saying that he believes in proof that mary isnt a virgin and that jesus is not the son.
i also kinda get that he is also talknig about he doesnt know what to believe
thats what i get from this song, mainly from the title and chorus and the spilling of your blood of your idol
i love fata but i have to say i dispise this songs lyrics, i find it offensive
In matthew in the bible theres a verse (25:32) about separating the sheep from the goats. The true believers (sheep) vs those who follow the wrong path. Which relates to the title.
I don't think this song is anti-christian. Maybe anti-religon...Catholics pray using a rosary, say there hail Mary's etc. In the song when he refers to the son of your idol. Mary is the idol.
In the chorus he talks about 'this extensive bug collection' which I think refers to the idea of evolution. The huge variety of bugs is seen to support evolution. He's talking about scientific discovery offering a world view outside of a religious belief system.
The world was not flat as people believed, and Darwin demonstrated an idea of our existence independent from our creation by a supernatural being. These ideas cast doubt on claims in the bible about creation, virgin mary etc
I'm not sure what each line in the song means, but I think the general gist of it is that he's questioning, searching for an answer.
The last line of the chorus suggests he's not sure what to believe. If it weren't for this I would still be sleeping sound. If he was ignorant of all these conflicting different ideas he could just beleive something without questioning and sleep sound at night.
Does anyone know where the quote at the end actually came from?
@edferd I got the opportunity to ask Fran this question about eight years ago when I saw him performing with Tidal Arms. He told me they got the sound clip from a documentary about hobos and railcar graffiti. It's called "Who is Bozo Texino?" You can also hear where they sampled the gear grinding sound at the beginning of Underpass Tutorial.

This song isn't just anti-religion. It's about hypocrisy, about using good causes to justify wrong actions. Hence the quote at the end. It fits like that as well as the fact it fits as anti-religion song.
If it were not for this extensive book collection I would know not what I found: I would think that the fighting for democracy, the killing the wars, the oppression--that it is all what it appears on the surface. This song works with any goats in sheeps rosary, any cause with a brilliant idealistic sheen that underneath is corrupt and horrible and is used to justify death and suffering.
Now that is something to scream about.
Excellent song.
I don't think it's "of the son of your idol" as in the idol's son. I think it's "of the son, of your idol" as in of the son AND idol. The christian tradition is to equate Bread to Jesus' Body and Wine to his Blood. So when he says "spilling the blood of the son" he means alcohol.
I don't think the song is anti-religious. He is not debasing religion. Religion in the song is a metaphor for an explanation in general. And the song is debasing the use of "explanations" or "searches for truth" as a justification for wrong doings.
And, by the way, the quote at the end goes:
"They say this country was based on hard work and integrity, and worshipping God. That’s all lies. (Laughs) This place was built on murder, man. Mayhem, slavery, oppression, lies, thievery, and tyranny. That's what it's based on..."
