well since I posted the song... I'll make the first comment. To me this song is about loving someone but knowing that everyone else is giving them negative feedback about you making the feeling less than mutual. Example. Ever known of anyone that you had interest in but because everyone talked of how much of a player or whore they were, you didn't even give them the chance? That's what this song is about. Tyler is trying to tell this girl that what she sees is who he is, not what everyone says he is. but he wants to know if he were what everyone else said he was, could she still love him. "Standing anonymous hoping your heart will just make up and ask for me by name" He's saying that he's standing there as someone she doesn't really know (since she's believeing rumors) and he's just hoping one day she'll find it in her heart to see the real him. just that day isn't today.

This song is so easy to listen to, austinrita is right. its just that he wants her to see him as just him without the things people have said judging her ideas

I like austinrita's interpretation :-) But I can see it in a different light too...

It's almost like she is manipulating him; stringing him along so to speak. IE-- "I'm not hip to all your tricks, your algebra, your politics." Buttt the tell-tale line for me is when he says, "I have confidence issues with your intentions." To me, this says he can't trust her.

But he still wants her... Oh my, does he want her. And I get the feeling he'd do anything for her-- but can only do so much, because of her manipulation, and the fact that for whatever reason, she won't let him in. So, instead of putting up with her nonesense-- he just is there, willing to wait. Hence MY MOST FAVORITE LYRIC of the song, "Standing annonymous, hoping your heart will just wake up and ask for me by name. Maybe someday it will ask for me by name-- just not today."

the song is about loving or like a guy as what he is..and not judge him by what other people say about him or whatever...take him as he is right? the thing i like about this song is, that he could be a geek or a "bad guy", does'nt really matter. This is a song for people who are perhaps in love and wants the girl to take him like they see "him"Let the girl decide, you know:) if she can?

this song was featured in one tree hill (if you've ever seen the show you'll get this) and he plays the character chris keller, who has a rep for being a player/jerk... but he loves the girl haley, and he wants her to see him for who he is hence, "i am what you see, i am not what they say. but if i turned out to be, could you love me anyways?" i think tyler wrote this almost a bit self conscious of himself even, just saying that he'd made a rep for himself and just wanted to be seen as him... not viewed as a player, or a jerk, or anything other than tyler.
