To me this song is about loving someone but knowing that everyone else is giving them negative feedback about you making the feeling less than mutual. Example. Ever known of anyone that you had interest in but because everyone talked of how much of a player or whore they were, you didn't even give them the chance? That's what this song is about. Tyler is trying to tell this girl that what she sees is who he is, not what everyone says he is. but he wants to know if he were what everyone else said he was, could she still love him. "Standing anonymous hoping your heart will just make up and ask for me by name" He's saying that he's standing there as someone she doesn't really know (since she's believeing rumors) and he's just hoping one day she'll find it in her heart to see the real him. just that day isn't today.
