The Park Lyrics

why would he come back through the park
you thought that you saw him, but no you did not
it's not him coming across the sea to surprise you
not him who would know where in London to find you

sadness so real that it populates the city
and leaves you homeless again
steam from a cup and snow on the path
the seasons have changed from the present to past

there's hope to have in the past

why would he come back through the park
you thought that you saw him, but no you did not
who can be sure of anything through the distance
that keeps you from knowing truth

why would he think, the boy could become
the man who could make you sure he was the one

my one, my one

One of the saddest songs I've ever heard.. the way she sings it is incredible and she doesn't make it too sentimental. She sort of sings against the sadness of it in a light way...until the very end. She's definitely talking to herself though - it's pretty clear especially when she says "my one" and the very end. I like the way she uses "you"..almost as if she's angry at herself for assuming he could commit/love her...

I think this song is about the singer who is walking in the park and thinks she sees the one she loves. She realizes it can't be true because she is in London and he wouldn't know where to find her. She feels foolish and wonders why she thought the guy she had fallen for would be mature enough to have a serrious relationship.

I feel like she's talking to herself, maybe about an ending relationship. Also I'm pretty sure the lyrics at the end are: ''Why would you think, your boy could become The man who could make you sure he was the one''

The song is a realization that there is no future in a relationship. The man doesn't know you, he doesn't love you like love him. He wouldn't know where to find you, in fact, he wouldn't make a sacrifice to follow you. It's about the depression involved in realizing that a woman who has become attached to a man, and even thought of marrying him, needs to move on. He's not "the one", he's only a boy. It's a break up song. It's about mourning your relationship and realizing that he's never coming back.

I feel like this song is about the depression involved in realizing that there is no future in a relationship; she needs to move on. I'm pretty sure she is talking to herself. Though I like how she is using the word 'you', almost as if she is angry at herself for assuming the boy could really love her.

i think this song is about how she is in love with a guy that is very far away. and he can't face the truth and be mature and admit his feelings. she thinks she sees him in the park but of course it couldn't be him because he would never realize that he needs her and take action and go out to find her.

I love this song so much. Her voice is haunting. To me this song makes me think of a situation I've been in recently where I was hoping I would be chased after once again and I wasn't. :/ It's heartbreaking because all you want is to see that person and to know that they feel the same way about you, and sometimes they do they just aren't ready to grow up. I know that's what I take from this song.

i think its talking about a past relationship. she is talking to herself while walking through a park. the love that she had was for a guy who had a somewhat shady past but she fought for him and believed in him. however he went back to his past behaviors ("The seasons have changed from the present to past"). she is upset which is symbolized by the steam in the cup. and she is unsure of what lies next, symbolized by the snow on the path. she wants to believe he can remain the man he was throughout their relationship but understands he is not which is represented by the park. he doesnt know her as deeply as she believed and she is slowly figuring this out and at the end she questions why she ever believed he could be the one.

also i prefer the version by justin vernon of bon iver...

This song is by far one of the most emotional songs I've ever listened to. Reminds me of my first love. Basically, I think it's about a girl who was in a relationship which wasn't quite so serious and just seemed like it was a fun thing at the time. But it ended like any little fling when he left London, leaving her behind. Although it just happened, once he was gone, she realized how much he really meant to her and realized she was actually in love with him. Now she's just waiting for him to realize the same thing and come back. But he's not gonna.

In the beginning it sounds like she's singing to a friend, telling her to move on. But then she sings "my one" and you realize she's telling herself...makes it even more heartbreaking.

I sob every single time I listen to this, just gets me(:
