The song is a melancholic song telling the story of a man who lost his loved one. It talks about the passage of time and how it destroyed everything beautiful in a garden (a metaphor for a relationship). The main character pleads for angels to bring his beloved back home, hoping that they will be reunited soon. In parts sung in Danish by Johan Olsen, describe their memories of their beloved and how she disappeared in the garden. He reminisces about how she shined so brightly and found solace in the singing trees; He also describes how the darkness took her away, leaving her lifeless on the stairs, hoping that the angels would take her home.
By the end, he's come to terms with her death and takes her to the garden, laying her under an old oak tree, which had now turned to stone. But with her, he can see everything 'blossom forevermore.' All he dreams about while hearing songs sung from the garden is for the angels to take him to meet his beloved once more.
In general, it's a sad song that deals with themes of love, loss, and acceptance, telling a beautiful story of a man's grief and his journey to find peace after losing his beloved.
