Today Won't Go Down In History Lyrics
You might never meet me,
For I am King.
And as we march into the storms eyes,
I find relief in the rain.
I can hide as I lead my army,
Into certain death.
Eyes over you. [x2]
Feel Alive. [x4]
And I wanted you to know,
Today won't go down in stone.
(Feel Alive)
And I wanted you to know,
I never meant for this.
(Close your eyes)
And I wanted you to know,
I never meant for this.
(Close your eyes)
Today won't go down in history,
So shut your eyes.
For I am King.
And as we march into the storms eyes,
I find relief in the rain.
I can hide as I lead my army,
Into certain death.
Today won't go down in stone.
(Feel Alive)
I never meant for this.
(Close your eyes)
I never meant for this.
(Close your eyes)
So shut your eyes.

small ammendment to the first verse:
"You Might never meet me, For I am King. And as we march into the storms eyes, I find relief in the rain, I can hide as i lead my army Into certain Death"
taken from the lyrics printed in the album sleeve
This song is awesome. Such a contrast to some of there other tunes. The lyrics are amazing, with so much power and hidden meaning behind them. Very moving. LOVE IT :]
Have to agree with Fallen Interlude.
I think it's about leading an army but knowing that you will lose. Not going down in history meaning that the event won't be remembered.
Awesome song; different from other songs on the album.
Brilliant song, as people have said so different to the majority of their songs but full of meaning and emotion.
making wrong decisions. hurting people you never meant too. could be about the band and there future at one point they may have been unsure weather they were going in the right direction. they fuckin rock live. leeds fest 07!!!
He is leading an army to their death, but didnt realize it till it began.
seems to me like Rou feels like he might be leading ES in the wrong direction, and the army might be the fans, who would be upset from anything bad happening to ES ( the king).
Going by the storyline of the album, the 'King' is leading an army to the aliens/Gods/whatever but he knows they won't win the battle.
He finds relief in the rain, because the rain can be used as an excuse as to why they lost.
I love this song, and I think the Interlude after it represents the army travelling towards the aliens (because when the aliens first arrive they are shouting 'And Still We Will Be Here, Standing Like Statues' (in the second track, Enter Shikari)) and then we have Return To Energiser during the battle (and the army shouting 'return to energiser' 'that's not what you want' etc etc)
Man I ramble.
they didn't play this in southamptom. Gutted. I love this song. I think its about knowing your about to die, and realising you never really left a mark and that you won't be remembered. Thats my opinion anyways x
The explanation I have heard about it was that it is supposed to be a Dictator apologising to his citizens: "And I wanted you to know/I never meant for this"
i agree with the comments at begining. someone is leading an army to the aliens that invaded earth even though they no theyl die
