Velvet Revolution Lyrics

Feeling radical in Cotton
Purified in my Satin
But the bomb of the season
is a Velvet Revolution.

I look at the sky
And feel the tears of the
Prophets crying.

I look at the sky
And feel the rain,
The rain of tears.

Feeling radical in Cotton
Purified in my Satin
But the bomb of the season
is a Velvet Revolution.

All you killers of the children,
There's a new Commandment,
The true Divine Creator wants a
Velvet Revolution.

All you killers of the children,
There's a new Commandment,
The true Divine Creator wants a

Velvet Revolution.

The Velvet Revolution was a non violent revolution that marked the end of the communist rule of Czechoslovakia. It began with student protest and a strike, leading to the overthrow of the Marxist government. I think maybe she sees a need for peaceful protest and an end to the current administration here.

Actually, it sounds Greek (not "latin"). And possibly like folk music from the rest of Balkans and Eastern Europe (including Czech Republic and Slovakia), but I'm only familiar with Greek music.

I agree with the suggestion that this has to do with the protests against the Marxist government. But I can't help but also think about how Tori references her good friend, and author, Neil Gaiman a lot in her songs. She's mentioned "The Velvets" in her songs before. "The Velvets" are a group of vampire-like women in one of Gaiman's earlier novels. (Great book, by the way !)

Take a look at this page and ctrl-F for "velvet." You will see a number of instances where Amos references Gaiman's work. http://www.english.ufl.edu/imagetext/archives/v4_1/reed/

I think this song carries a double meaning. Reference both to peaceful protest, and to a desire to hear more about The Velvets.
