Heat Dies Down Lyrics

I can just imagine you and me
Running out of steam
Going through the motions
I have no idea how you know
When I dip my toes
In other people's oceans

You have local knowledge
Of the local area
And that impressed me quite
So I tried that night
We do all the things I thought you'd like
But that just made it worse
And I impressed you not
Well not a lot

Slow-ly star-ting from the start...

When the heat dies down
I'll be back in town
But until that time
I'll be round at mine
When the heat dies down
we'll be back in town
But until that time
I'll be round at mine

When the heat dies down,
When the heat dies down,
When the heat dies down,
When the heat dies down...

I can not imagine growing old
To have and to hold
Til death do part each other
Cos right now I can stroll back 20 years
Spending time at hers
Talking to our mothers

I've got wider knowledge of the world
I just can't face another argument about the rent,
It all seems so important
In the grander scheme of things
But I was purpose built
To not feel guilt

Slow-ly end-ing at the end...

When the heat dies down,
I'll be back in town,
But until that time,
I'll be round at mine
When the heat dies down,
we'll be back in town,
But until that time,
I'll be round at mine

When the heat dies down,
When the heat dies down,
When the heat dies down,
When the heat dies down...

Yeah, I see the whole relationship dying thing too. I also think he's cheated on her (dipping his toes in other peoples' oceans), because he's just lost interest, and now she's all mad and he's waiting till she's less mad (waiting till the heat dies down) to show his face in town again. That's what I think anyway.

Well, nick hodgson said in an interview that heat dies down was about when they came home (leeds) from their first tour, and being treated differently than before. they used to go out a lot, but a lot of people recocnise them nowadays, and follow them, while they havent changed..

Yeah theFallen, their 'official' story behind thier songs is often kinda off beat with the obvious meaning, this means either that the official storys are made to throw off the audience (which ALOT of bands do) or simply the song was writen loosely.

Most wrighters are obvious with their meaning, most of the KC's songs are obvious and thus they may say things to misslead.

Cool song though, its sad but i idenify with it :-(

Hey, TheFallen, I think you're right, but they weren't talking about this song, but about Highroyds. If you look at its lyrics, it's pretty obvious. This one is about a relationship, where he likes her more than she likes him "I impressed you not" The second part is I think about something else, these 2 parts don't seem to fit together...The second one is IMHO about a fear of growing old and of responsibilities and about a fear of becoming a parent or a husband. So he decided to to stay home until his heat for her dies down "But until that time, I'll be round at mine" because he probably doesn't feel ready for it.

lol okay so these two people are having a bad relationship so he tries some things in bed and it just makes things worse and then later he sings about how he doesn't want to marry her and then they break up, thats what it means to me lol

the song kind of reminds me of both paint it black by the rolling stones and fear of the dark by iron maiden. or is it just me?

@larusso I get what you mean.

It could be about fame--how suddenly things are different for everyone, and then the heat dies down and no one cares anymore--but I'd always interpreted it as being about a relationship. "I can just imagine you and me, running out of steam, going through the motions"...have you ever been in one of those relationships where after awhile you're just together for the sake of saying you're together, and you're just too lazy to break up? There's no actual reason to end it, but neither person really cares all that much anymore. I think that's supported by "I cannot imagine growing old, to have and to hold". He's like..."you know, this really isn't going anywhere, the heat is gone" (or will be soon).

The narrator is a hedonistic philanderer, with no sense of responsibility. When he's found out cheating, he runs off home 'til the heat dies down. His relationships never has a chance, 'cos he just doesn't see himself settling down ever.

His girlfriend has her nose to the ground and finds him out: "I have no idea how you know When I dip my toes In other people's oceans."

He tries to butter her up: "So I tried that night To do all the things I thought you'd like."

She sees through him, so he does a runner back to his place to avoid the responsibilities of commitment: "When the heat dies down I'll be back in town But until that time I'll be round at mine."

He's always like this, it's not a one off: So it was "at the start," as well as "at the end." He never took commitment seriously even from the beginning.

In fact, he doesn't take ANY responisibilities seriously: "I just can't face another argument about the rent" which he can't be bothered to pay.

Marriage was never remotely a possibility with this guy: "I can not imagine growing old To have and to hold Til death do part each other."

He's a heartless bastard, and that's all there is to it: "I was purpose built To not feel guilt."

So, until the "heat dies down," and all the people he pisses off, cool down, you won't see this guy for dust.
