I erased you
from my every waking memory
I replaced you
with a vision that you – won’t see
pity is a four letter word
and so is quit
(and so is left but I’m)
right where you wanted me
feed from the inside
out of bitter sympathy
you want me wrong but I’m right
may I remind you
it doesn’t take much time to call
can I respect you
if a man was never there at all
pity is a four letter word
And so is quit
(and so is left but I’m)
CHORUS (Repeat)
I replaced you with a vision that you – can’t see
(Right where you wanted me)
Feed me from the inside
(Out of bitter sympathy)
You want me wrong but I’m
(Chorus Repeat)
from my every waking memory
I replaced you
with a vision that you – won’t see
and so is quit
(and so is left but I’m)
feed from the inside
out of bitter sympathy
you want me wrong but I’m right
it doesn’t take much time to call
can I respect you
if a man was never there at all
And so is quit
(and so is left but I’m)
I replaced you with a vision that you – can’t see
Feed me from the inside
(Out of bitter sympathy)
You want me wrong but I’m
(Chorus Repeat)

In my opinion I think this song is about someone who's Father was never there for them. In the lyrics he's basically saying that I have erased you from my thoughts and feelings and have filled them with better thoughts and feelings and saying the person should know the word pity because thats what his father is for quitting on him.
"may I remind you it doesn’t take much time to call can I respect you if a "MAN" was never there at all.." -Those lyrics say that when he, MAN, was gone all he had to do was just pick up the phone and just call him to talk for a bit but he never did so how can he love or respect the person who quit on him.
"pity is a four letter word And so is quit(and so is left but I’m)" -These lyrics in my opinion back up my statement with my theory on why I believe he's talking about leaving. He says pity is a four letter word and so is quit...then he ends it off with "left"....quitting and then just got up and left.
Then last in the lyrics there's " right where you wanted me.....out of bitter sympathy" he's saying that his Father put him right where he wanted him. In a sympathetic emotion to have this sympathy for him because of what he did. And then he says he wants me wrong but I'm...right. Yeah, so his father wants him to feel this sympathy and make his son feel like he doesn't know what happened and he's wrong and should feel bad, but the truth is, he's right.
But that's just my opinion and I didn't think of the song being towards a girl/girlfriend because of his lyrics
".....can I respect you if a man was never there at all"
