The Pledge Lyrics
Perhaps the "boy" in constant reference is Kyo...expanding on that prospect, the lyrics "Voice of a promise," and "it can not be heard anymore" (referring to the promise… or 'pledge') suggest betrayal. The boy is perpetually traumatized by the betrayal, and tusly, refrains from trusting anyone henceforth.
"This is my pledge to you
I still can't live well. What I can change is only--"
Considering Kyo must be making this 'pledge' to someone, I think it's implied that the aforementioned social trauma has continued to affect him...thusly, he makes the pledge that he will "change." The next bit of proof to my claim requires you to understand a bit of music theory; the song ends in a major key...when a song changes keys (particularly towards the end of a song) it signifies something of a "good ending."- of course, the Japanese do have a tendency of switching to major keys (take almost every Asian Kung-Fu Generation song for example...), but Dir En Grey usually tries very hard to deviate from the paradigm of established music...so I doubt they'd conform this late in the game. Anyway, I think I've digressed a bit- back on track, now: Kyo keeps his 'pledge' to whomever he...(umm) pledged to (as signified by the major key change...) Yahh...good song
GG-Genya ^-^
omg the unplugged version is so beautiful... i love this song so badly... ^^
i cant stop listening to this song, it makes me cry T.T
This song it's really beautiful, kyo sure is great. But there are some mistakes in translating. For example "it cannot be heard it anymore" - the second "it" makes no sense in here. I think it's rather It cannot be heard anymore
i love this song.. Kyo sings this song so emotionally, its just so sad.. Especially the unplugged version, it just makes me cry when i hear his voice... T.T
this has to be kyo's most accomplished song .. vocally , i could listening to the damn song for hours lol, but i still rather the cd version than the unplugged one but meh , its probably gonna grow on me. i certainly give it a 9/10!
I love Marrow of a bone.
Kyo can't sing anymoe? Bollocks, first song and you've been pwnd Kyo can't write meaningful lyrics anymore. Bollocks. They dont draw enough from past albums? bloocks, theirs loads of elements from their past albums in there. I LOVE IT because it proves doubters wrong.
This song could fit onto any of their other albums quite happily. It's beautifully written (of course)
I'm rather charmed by this song. It's lovely.
I's time's like this I wish I could interpret lyrics better. I'm a bit puzzled about what Kyo's talking about here. Then again, I don't mind. Kyo's way of lacing emotion into his singing is amazing and entertaining enough in itself.
Who needs to understand what such a voice is saying when it' so beautfiul?
This song made perfect sense to me when I first read the translation. I knew most of what Kyo was singing but I couldn't quite grasp it until now. "The Pledge" is my favorite song off the new album. There's just something about it.... that's inexplainable.
This song makes me happy in my pants,
your right marrow of a bone certainly disperses the idea that dir en grey is fading away.
this song is about...
not wanting to live maybe.? he said he leaves parts out of the story so all i can pull out is not wanting to live but not wanting to kill oneself.
