Yesterday was not quite what it could have been
As were most of all the days before
But I swear today, with every breath I'm breathing in
I'll be trying to make it so much more
'Cause it seems I get so hung upon the history of what's gone wrong
That the hope of a new day is sometimes hard to see
But I'm finally catching onto it
Yeah, the past is just a conduit
And the light there at the end is where I'll be
'Cause I'm on the up and up
I'm on the up and up
And I haven't given up
Given up on what I know I'm capable of
I'm on the up and up
Yeah, there's nothing left to prove
'Cause I'm just trying to be a better version of me for you
A better version of me for you
To the prosperous
Would not require much of me
You see, contentment is the all that it entails
To be content with where I am and getting where I need to be
I'm moving past the past where I have failed
But I'm finally catching onto it
Yeah, the past is just a conduit
And the light there at the end is where I'll be
'Cause I'm on the up and up
I'm on the up and up
And I haven't given up
Given up on what I know I'm capable of
I'm on the up and up
Yeah, there's nothing left to prove
'Cause I'm just trying to be a better version of me for you
A better version of me for you
Never cease to supply
Me with what I need to be
So when I'm down, I'll hold my head up high
'Cause you're the reason why
You are
I'm on the up and up
I'm on the up and up
And I haven't given up
Given up on what I know I'm capable of
Yeah, I'm on the up and up
Yeah, there's nothing left to prove

This song is pretty self-explanatory, just trying to be a better person for God, every day, what is the reason? He is.
this song is sooo inspiring....I luv it!!!
sheshaw3 I agree. I think that is what he is trying to say. I think that it also has to do with putting things done in the past behind him and trying to be a better servant of God. The first couple of lines remind me of some things that I have gone through, they remind me of when I was trying as hard as I could to be what God wants me to be, but sorta realizing that whenever I don't try so hard it just happens. Anyways, Relient K is one of the biggest driving forces in my life. Great album, more than I had expected from it, I bought 5 copies to super support the band, since they don't play here much.

This song is really relevent in my life right now, and it helped put a few things in perspective for me. I think the album stinks though, and this is pretty much the only song worth anything (except Deathbed).
Corrections.
"contentment is the all that it entails" should be "contentment is the one thing it entails
"me with what I need to be" should be "me with what I need for a good life"
@ swft24: Why do you think the album stinks? Don't just say it does and not give a reason why. I think it shows their progression from a bunch of kids singing blatantly about Jesus to a group of open minded talented adults making their music hit the airwaves, while still sending out the message that they wanted to. My friend Dan was not a Christan most of his life, but I gave him this CD on my school trip on Spring Break, because he had nothing to listen to. Well on the last day at about 2 A.M. he came up to me in tears (NOTE: this is a guy who NEVER crys) and said, "I don't get it, but I want to get it." I guess out of context that would make no sense to most of you, but he wanted to learn about God and Jesus, and so on, and it was because of this album, had he listened to the S/T album he would have disregarded it and not cared. So in my opinion this is their best album, it shows progress, intelligence, energy, and still speaks for what they were trying to speak about from the beginning. Just my 2 cents on the album.
good song, but not the best on the cd. Deathbed is one of the best well written songs i've heard in awhile. Then there is Devastation and Reform, which is just simply rockin.
As far as best album goes, im not sure about that. Im still liking MHMM, but this is album is in a close second. And actually their Apathetic EP is truly great also.
warade: if it touched someone, then I am wrong. It just didn't touch me like Mmhmm. And I disagree with you about how they progressed, I think most of this album was a digression. They had really shed their happy go lucky teen face and really grew up with deep meaningful lyrics on Mmhmm, and the Apathetic EP seemed like they could go even further. But then I listened to Five Score and it seemed like they took a step backwards to where they had been with Two Lefts. I just don't get how they changed that much from Apathetic EP to this, and for me it's a dissapointment
swft24 you are totally right and I felt the same way after the first listen through. Their A&R guy pushed them too far. And at first I found faking my own suicide pretty tasteless and offensive. Idk this album was a major disappointment!

I think the album was a digression as well, but i feel like there were some real highlights where they really shined, the problem is... my favorite wasn't on the CD, Fallen Man was amazing, one of my favorite songs yet from Relient K, also Death Bed, I Need You, Forgiven and Devestation and Reform were all highlights in my own opinion. I thought Come Right Out and Say It was the catchiest song and should have been the second single, but also felt they fell far short of what they could have accomplished... Forgiven was a weak slow song compared with (The Moments I Feel Faint, Getting Into You, and When I Go Down), and songs like Must Have Done Something Right, The Best Thing (although there are some good riffs there), this song, are all a little too sugar coated for me, also I have personally never liked Faking My Own Suicide, it just never sounded good to me. This is just my own opinion, not to offend anyone, if u have any comments i'd love to hear them! Man... I can't believe Fallen Man wasn't on the album!
Personally, I like Must Have Done Something Right...

Though I agree, there are a few songs on there I don't like. My sister only borrowed the disc and downloaded a few songs (I may get the whole one, if only for Crayon Can mlt on Us for All I care) Lock The Windows, Why Don't You, I Need You or So I'm taking you With Me- I just haven't eben a big fan of heavy rockish songs.

This album is in my opinion their best album so far, they have gone from beeing somewhat silly to beeing serious, but still with humour. This is actually the first album in which I have liked all of the songs!
