love is like life
it just wants to be saved
by someone and not die alone
but like mornings light
i am searching for someone
who can keep me from fading out
'cause the day seem to pass by so quickly
while the nights always creepin' in.
when i die i will die fearfully
because bravery is fake and cliche
i can hear all of the footsteps made above me
as you let new faces in through your door
but the heat from the boiler room below me
keeps me questioning the so called future
if the past has effect on whatever comes next
ive been digging a single-sized grave
love is like life, oh we all pray to god
but not even the pure are saved
well i need to learn to fall gently
like the snow drifting down towards the dirt
'cause when i die and you let go of me
i will be sinking down to hell
theres a hole in my heart
and a hole in the sky
you just cant see it filling up
ive got the emptiest of veins
but loves not a drug
we'll never ever reach the top
love leaves me strung out on the basement floor
well i used to think the day was endless
like the kids outside of my house still do
love is like life, it just wants to be saved
by some light before the darknesses ensues
but its following us all, like the shadows while we walk
i see the light but the darkness seems to be surrounding me
like the moon in the sky in the night while i try to fall asleep
i used to think that the light would always be surrounding me
now all i can think about is life and when it will be ending
theres a hole in my heart
and a hole in my sky
i just cant seem to fill it up
ive got the emptiest of veins
but loves not a drug
we'll never ever reach the top
im always reaching for lifes throat
but like life it has no pulse
see ive been dying since birth
love leaves me strung out on the basement floor
love leaves me dying since the moment i was born

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
