yeah no offense to any of you i hate when people tell me my interpretations are wrong...people interpret things differently...but i just always thought this song was about how he makes mistakes with people, not God, and he never thinks before he talks. The part about "I gotta keep quiet, quiet And listen to your voice Because the power of your words Can repair all that I've destroyed" is obviously about God. The Bible teaches us to comfort and to apologize, to make things right. So in that way "his words" repair the damage mat has done with his own words. its like hoopes i did it again, or this week the trend...if you havent noticed mat is the most cyclical person there is...i'm sure some of you can relate to the struggle with inconsistency in your walks...i can sooooo relate!
I think this song is about listening to God, not just talking to him, you cant just say you need his help, and put him on a shelf, you have to actually CONVERSE with him.. i think this song is sweet and COMPLETELY TRUE! i love it and i also love them! : )
I don't think this song has much to do with God. I think most of it is how he speaks impulsively, without thinking, and sometimes, it's hurtful to others. The bridge, I will admit, is about God, asking for forgiveness. The rest of the song isn't really. That's my 741 cents. :)
I think Matt Thiessen is trying to say in this song how no matter what we say about God or how we talk about Him, He will always be there to set us straight. Just because you may say you don't believe in Him or His Word doesn't mean He doesn't exist. And He'll set you straight, in a good way.
It could also have something to do with how we should think before we say things. Pray before we say some things, because our wisdom fails us so often. "the power of your words, can repair all i've destroyed" Any way you look at it, the brilliance especially in the first verse it ridiculously amazing.

yeah, that basically tells my life story there. :)
I definitely agree with musical hearts that he's is talking about his mistakes with people. I find myself having to heed his advice about 'biting my tongue' because I can really 'conjure up a phrase that can cut to the quick' and unfortunately 'I wish that I could take back' half of the things I have said.
