Wooden Boat Lyrics
A little boy and me went fishing in a wooden boat
Sitting there for hours in the cold
Patience is a virtue til we die
Then a ripple in the water caught my eye
Sometimes we don't know what we're waiting for
And thats the time to be the first one on the dance floor
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep
Who knows how long this will last
Only was last week I learned to drive
I stole my mothers keys and drove all night
Christine never showed its 4:00 am
I started up mums car drove home again
Sometimes we don't know what we're waiting for
And thats the time to be the first one on the dance floor
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep
Who knows how long this will last
One year ago I've kissed my bride
Now I wait to hear my baby's cry
Woman showed me all that she knew then
[not sure: sorry]
Sometimes we don't know what we're waiting for
And thats the time to be the first one on the dance floor
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep
Who knows how long this will last
Christine died and now I'm here alone
What i would'nt give to be on that wooden boat
Sitting there for hours in the cold
Patience is a virtue til we die
Then a ripple in the water caught my eye
And thats the time to be the first one on the dance floor
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep
Who knows how long this will last
I stole my mothers keys and drove all night
Christine never showed its 4:00 am
I started up mums car drove home again
And thats the time to be the first one on the dance floor
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep
Who knows how long this will last
Now I wait to hear my baby's cry
Woman showed me all that she knew then
[not sure: sorry]
And thats the time to be the first one on the dance floor
We go from green to blue to gold to black
Breathe deep
Who knows how long this will last
What i would'nt give to be on that wooden boat

OK missing Lyrics First line "A little boy me went fishing in a wooden boat" The bit you don't know
"To cut himself down man's born again"
I love the song. Its a real surprise sung by Jason Orange, penned by Take That.
Particularly like the lyric going from "Green to Blue to Gold to Black" represents the 4 verses. Green - Youth Blue - Stood up by his lover Gold - Wedding to his lover Black - Death of his lover ( A life cut short - A verse cut short)
And what a great voice Jason has on his debut on doing the lead vocals !

P.S. I still luv T.T.
I got the album yesterday and this song immediately stuck out. I L-O-V-E it!! Jason has such a beautiful voice and should lead more often instead of Gary always doing it! lol!
The lyrics are so beautiful and i agree with ireneXY about the 'green to blue to gold to black' part. When i was listening to it i was thinking that the first verse, while having an clear meaning (about being a child on a boat fishing-duh) buti it has an underlying meaning i think. The wooden boat is life and he is waiting for something to come along. The ripple in that water i.e the fish, is Christine the women he talks of. He was sitting and waiting for his love to come along and she did and the other verses show their time together as young lover, then in marriage and then in death. And when she dies she wants to be young and living and back to the waiting because it is all over.... he has gone through green, blue, gold and black and would give anything to be back in the 'wooden boat'. I think the chorus is again showing this....waiting for something in life but we dont even know what it is and so we should just LIVE LIFE hence getting on the dance floor and letting ourselves go. I think it is a very philisophical song. or at least it is to me. it is great great great x x x
I can interpret the first verse.
Fishing is a sport which needs lots of patience, refering to the patience of childhood and early teenagehood where there was no love yet. 'A little boy and I' means that as a child, he was like a different person. Wooden boats can symbolise peace, so he had a peacefull, innocent childhood. 'Patience is a virtue' means that though he didn't want to, he had to wait for love. 'Then a ripple in the water caught my eye', which in fishing would be a fish, but he was 'fishing for love', and the ripple was someone he loved.
