Kele said in an interview with The Guardian that it's about college graduates who want to kill themselves- that they come out of school and still can't find a purpose in life. I think that's reflected in "like a castaway in an ocean, waiting for a purpose to rise"... the graduates wait for their purpose in life to rise, and they think suicide would be a better option than going through with life. I love how the song swells with the drums and guitars and background voice about halfway... it's very beautiful. Definitely about suicide.

Beautiful, beautiful song. The perfect way to end the album.

But just one little correction, the songs title should be SRXT, not SXRT. Whoever leaked it (NME, I'm looking at you). It stands for Seroxat, an anti depressant. Knowing that, its pretty obvios to see that this song is about suicide.

The only thing I want to know is who the hell Eugene is =D

What a fantastic song The emotion builds up as the song progresses Until the last two lines which make me wanna cry....and im a guy.

Whoa whoa whoa...people are disappointed in this album? Are you crazy? The whole thing rips from start to finish and that's not even counting the Imports and B-sides. I guarantee if you listen to this thing again you will flip your nut or your money back. This song in particular kills me but it is by no means the strongest on the release. I agree that there's something with the focus of the album being on life in the city and then the narrator ending the album (again, not counting the imports) in a more rural setting. Sheer genius and if you don't like it I will get physical.

This is a quote from Kele, on the Bloc Party website about this song:

"It was inspired by the fact that in 2005 two of my friends told me that they tried to kill themselves after leaving university. I thought that was really sad. Opting out was more attractive than the idea of enduring a life."

I also disagree with the people that were disappointed with this album. I really think that this album flows and I love all of the songs on it.

Silent Alarm is fantastic as well. I think they are both great albums. Bloc Party are amazing.

Just for info's sake, Nietzsche said something about if you embrace faithlessness/atheism/nihilism, the more you try and turn back and embrace it, the more error and uselessness you find in it. This phrase sums up that theory perfectly, go Bloc Party. This CD makes it seem like Kele is going through a rough period in his life, anyone agree? Compared to Silent alarm they are definitely maturing. I think this CD speaks a lot of our modern society, becoming more and more nihilistic

Absolutly amazing song. That Guardian interview really says a lot about all of these really - Moushi seems to have got it just right, but it's a bit more personal that that since he also said two of his friends from university felt like this and tried to kill themselves, so it's not strictly speaking his point of view in a way.

Also, he mentioned how his mother's Christianity and faith that all was in God's hands rather than acting for herself was hugely depressing to him, hence what makes him sad is hope, the endurance of faith - though it can also be dispair at how we're encoraged to dream of being sucessful and reach for that and not being able to get there.
