I can be relied upon for nothing less than patently perversely narcissistic disappointment (I swear it)
I will do my worst to do my best
I'll try to try: leave nothing left except my A-bomb and my ballistic ammunition

Half brain/ Halfwit/ Full Blame/ Full Charge
Guess who/ Guess Right/ Selfish/ Self large
Self incrimination of a trumped down declaration of no principles and no mercy

I've been telling the truth and swearing it's a lie now
Manning a booth dedicated to my step right up pin the tail on my cowardice
'Cause I'm two faced, bald faced (shit faced)

Vested in disinterest I wanna claw to the core barest of my breast
I wanna rip at the rib cage
Swinging open, open
Set the house aflame I've made the beds
I burned the corpse but I saved the head
Go on, go free
I know you're lost 'cause you're talking to me

I can be dissected without using any tools
My innards give away but nothing of my guileless ruse, bitch
I will do the least to hurt the most
So try to cry, behold my ghost:
He looks just like me but with more vigor less transparency

Soulless/ Soul suck/ Mind crime/ Mind fuck/ Luckless/ Muckfest/ Don't care/ Not there
Purposeful omission of the humankind condition I'm a dolled up apparition

Vertebrae display alacrity in housing hearts with ribs like candy
A peppermint stick to prick the carotid artery
Red and white striped agony - you see, this awaits me

See you
I want to see you
So it pains me
To know that I don't care to care

Gentle Hour

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
