Half a Heart Lyrics
Drunk on wine, I’m amazing
Bitter Pill; it’s my raising
News at five and at midnight
Caught on tape; serves me right
The crowd around me starts to grow
I can feel the undertow
Anyone with a half a heart would help me out
Before they ever let the other half find out
But if they could see how far I’ve let you down
Anyone with half a heart would let me drown
Flashing lights couldn’t warn her
Paint myself in a corner
Bracing now for the impact
Losing hope, keeping track
Standing on a crumbling wall
Tethered to a cannonball
Anyone with half a heart would help me out
Before they ever let the other half find out
But if they could see how high I’ve built this wall
Anyone with half a heart would let me fall
In the space between sleep and sleeplessness
We redress all our wounds
If we replace all this hopeless hopelessness
Then we could rest
Anyone with half a heart would let me drown
Anyone with half a heart would pull me down
Anyone with half a heart would let me fall
Anyone with half a heart wouldn’t care at all
Anyone with half a heart would help me out
Before they ever let the other half find out
But if they could see how far I’ve let you down
Anyone with half a heart would let me drown
Bitter Pill; it’s my raising
News at five and at midnight
Caught on tape; serves me right
I can feel the undertow
Before they ever let the other half find out
But if they could see how far I’ve let you down
Anyone with half a heart would let me drown
Paint myself in a corner
Bracing now for the impact
Losing hope, keeping track
Tethered to a cannonball
Before they ever let the other half find out
But if they could see how high I’ve built this wall
Anyone with half a heart would let me fall
We redress all our wounds
If we replace all this hopeless hopelessness
Then we could rest
Anyone with half a heart would pull me down
Anyone with half a heart would let me fall
Anyone with half a heart wouldn’t care at all
Before they ever let the other half find out
But if they could see how far I’ve let you down
Anyone with half a heart would let me drown

I'm think it's about someone who is half despicable and half pitiable. People might feel sorry for him and try to help him, but if they really thought about it, he's a pretty bad guy and he's done some bad things and he's not reliable and so if you really thought about it, you'd probably let him drown, because he's really not worth saving.
Ed Robertson was rumored to be having an affair a while back, and I think that is what this song is about. He knows no one should feel sorry for him, but hopes that someone can save him from all of the guilt.
The beginning of the song suggests that he was caught by news reporters/tabloids with another woman, and his wife found out through that. He goes on to say, "flashing lights couldn't warn her/paint myself in a corner."
I just love the line, "Before they ever let the other half find out."
I looked for the Ed Robertson affair rumor but couldn't find anything about it. Love this song and I agree with jwknov29 on the cheating husband meaning but maybe its not about Ed himself.
I think this song touches on assisted suicide; "anyone with half a heart would pull me down". The "help me out" line is referring to helping him kill himself after some bad publicity. It also kind of says that all suicide is assisted suicide, because everyone helps by not telling anyone about it. There are a lot of bnl songs that sound like suicide even though they aren't, (When I Fall, etc.) but I think this one is.
Dear Ed, Damn your double-meanings.
PS: This is my favourite song on BLAM.
To me this song is telling the story of a guy ho is drunk after a party and ends up running over some girl on his way home. He has no idea what was going on (due to his drunken state), and no one will listen to his side of the story, or treat him like a human being.
maybe it's ed writing about steve page's cocaine use and alcoholism??? that's what came to my mind right away..
it's a shame. but a great song.
